With the sport models being approx 20mm lower than the none sport varients, would they be ok with a 50mm lift kit or would 40mm still be the max without lots of extra modifications?

From my experience, it would need inner wing mods for both sizes, but it shouldn't require any other mods (like grinding bits of track rod ends or tie rods).

Just WHY do you want to do this :eek::eek:

Ground clearance and looks I supposes
A lot of mods have no other purpose but to make things look better
I'd like to raise mine by a few inches if I could afford it.
Guy down the road got a defender with body lift, winch and god knows what other modifications just so he can chuck his tool kit in it.
Lucky bugger

Nail on the head, purely for looks. 4x4's are chunky and should be high in the air. I bought the 'sport' model as at the time it was the best car available to buy within a reasonable distance to me and I liked the way it drove.

I know exactly where you are coming from.
Some ppl say looks don't matter as long as it does what it needs to do but I don't care fore anything I don't like the look of no matter how good it is.

Being 20mm lower I'd imagine with the 2" lift you may have to do minor tweaks to the inner wing like bending the lip over but not a lot more!

Gibbo GTI, I'd say there are three options I can think of that will avoid the rubbing issue because you have a 'Sport' model.

1) Replace entire 'Sport' suspension with affordable second hand LR factory spec non 'Sport' dampers and LR factory spec springs then you can do what the other hippos can. Now add a lift kit. (E.g. DAP).

2) Fit more expensive Monroe shocks, that might be a little stiffer than stock LR items, lob on some second hand or new LR factory springs (again non Sport). The ride might now be less squishy than a standard Freelander, marginally. Now add a lift kit. (E.g. DAP).

3) Don't fit a lift kit using spacers and just get LR/Monroe shocks (replace your factory sport shocks) and add some stiffer 'Ironman' springs which is still about 1.5'' lift.

If you don't intend to take your vehicle off road and want a higher ride height but still want some stiffer ride quality (like a sport, but not as good because the dampers aren't 40mm lower remember), then I'd consider
a final compromise of: Monroe Shocks and Ironman Springs (to enable a future lift kit being fitted).

However, I'm not aware if you can then add the DAP spacer kit on top because this theoretically might give a lift of 3.5'' (89mm) which is too high. I think the highest ever lift sold, is 70mm and most say 50mm is maximum.
Maybe some other people can kindly let us know their thoughts.
