So all these people running trepadors, boggers, simex etc in competitions are missing a trick then, lol
No retard, as a "standard tyre" .. i.e general all rounder for various situations. Since when was a competition equivalent to OP on tyres you freaking moron.

"Any help with the above would be great. I'm not into green laning, just small-holding and pottering around the country/europe."

You bellend, do you not have a sense of humour, Id bet your windows are the cleanest in your street

Simex sound perfect for a European jaunt, strap some Gerry cans to the roof, chassis lift, wheelarch eyebrows, straight through pipe on the 4.6 v8 and just in case there's any doubting you're a total cock end, slap a huge one life live it sticker on the windscreen :D

The main cause of punctures in tubes fitted to tubeless or even tube type tyres is down to the little quality control etc stickers fitted inside the tyre casing , these need removing , but not just by picking them off, you need to buff the area and then generously chalk powder the area , as its the solvent that attacks the tube over time causing it to perish and go flat .
Going for high load tyres (truck type eg 12 pr) results in rough ride, reduced off road capability as they dont flex so well even when aired down. You only need a load rating that is suitable for the axle load .
If adequate power is available , and depending on use then a wider tyre can be advantageous , its very much horses for courses tho. Tyre operating pressures are very important depending on use and can make a huge difference to how the tyre will perform in a given circumstance. The standard 750 16 can give one persons required result , but are not the be all and end all JMHO

So after all of that, it seems like the range masters on some 16inch 6.5j steelies will do the job.

Those Michelin ones sound good, but I do like the 'solid centre tread' theory.

A fair synopsis. Though it may get a bit lairy in the wet
Yeah that's the same tradeoff I had with my current daily - the tuned up 280bhp Saab 9000... Nice quiet comfy travelling, or grip in the wet.

Conti rain thingies seems a decent compromise though. Not applicable to a defender though.

Ooooh, pics please?
I ran Pirelli P6000 on my Saab, it ate them so the trade off for me is usually between grip and longevity.

Haha... I can't pollute a landy forum with Saab pics surely?

Oh go on then...

I had p6000's on for a while too... Then went up to 16inch 7.5j with eagles on... God they were deadly! Awful tyres! Then some super rare superspokes alloys with these conti tyres on... 15 inch 7j.

So true, whenever I see the one life sticker I always think utter ****:D

I like that, it's even the right colour. I always fancied a 9000 Aero or a T16.
I'm stuck with this 93ss Aero for now, I had a lovely 900 vert 2.3 that some anus decided to write off in Tesco's car park a few years back.

P6000 = ditch finders!

7.50 R16 Rangemaster are a good allrounder. 7.50R16 mud tyres are well up to most off road use.
There is truth in the solid tread theory, although little sipes like above wont be noisy. It is when you get lots of little blocks, like simex type comp tyres, they howl like the tread on mountain bike tyres! But bigger!
My Fedima Maxima are quite quiet on the road, although they have quite aggressive lugs at the side. Doubt if the braking and cornering is up to modern tyres either, but hey ho, its a tratter, and I drive it like one! :)

Mine had bags and bags of grip, even in the wet. They were way too soft though, and didn't last.
Likewise... Or was it the p6's... I can't bloomin remember now... Possibly I had p6's actually.. Think they were the newer tyre.

Nice gm 900! My 9k is only a 2.0t anni, but stage 3 with a td04 fitted :)

On the landy tyre front.. Yes I imagine the rangemasters are way way behind modern tyre design... Perhaps I need to look into the options a little more now that i know the wheel size I need.
