Hi everyone,
So,
Couldn't get my hand on a diesel compression tester but did the injectors check,

2 out of 4 made the car almost stall ( actually first made it stall completely)
Now the 2 others did not make any diference whatsoever .
It should make a difference isn't it ?
Should I just bring my injectors cleaned up before paying anyoen to check anything else ? Any ways to clean them up myself here ?
Thanks !

interesting. Surely none should make it stall. Does this mean that it was only running on 2 cylinders all this time?

I off to do the same on mine.

It might be, maybe that's why it is not working properly, didn't have time to bring them to the specialist yet , will do tomorrow.

Guys, nothing related but is it possible to not have any intercooler at all ? Because I've got nothing else than the radiator and it looks like there is a space for a small one next to it...

Might have an aftermarket one fitted in front/behind the rad. A hose comes off the intake and the turbo, they both connect to the intercooler.

Definetly not in front or behind the rad , and from the intake i got only one from the snorkel and the other to the turbo :S
I'll triple check tomorrow

That's all I've got but we can't see the radiator because it is fixed on one side only and it was for the insurance so wonder if they would be to happy . ( I know it need a serious cleaning but it broke down before I had the chance )

Will take a better one tomorrow

Should be..
Snorkel to air cleaner.
Air cleaner to turbo inlet
Turbo outlet to intercooler inlet
Intercooler outlet to inlet manifold.

Yeah...just looked. That's been bodged but God knows why. Air cleaner is wrong too.
Conversion done on the cheap I'm afraid.

So I don't have any then ?
I will try to sort that out , any chance you could point me out in the right direction ?
Any chance this is the cause of my smoking/leaking, going nowhere problem ? Could that damage the turbo ?

Take that hose off the turbo to intake manifold and check if it's dripping oil (engine NOT running!) That's a sign of turbo seal failure= smoking.
To make your engine bay layout correct you will need Defender 200tdi aircleaner canister, hose to turbo, hose to intercooler, intercooler and hose to inlet manifold. Without an intercooler performance will be lower and intake air temperature will be higher. Weather higher intake air temperature will damage anything I'm unsure but it's not a good idea for sure.

Thanks a lot Flossie ! I'll check the turbo tomorrow and order the parts right now
If it is a seal failure can we repair that or would I need a new turbo ?

Turbo is recon exchange for you and not particularly cheap. Source intercooler, air cleaner secondhand, hoses new or very good condition secondhand. Don't but any bits yet though until you've established what's wrong with the engine. Ie, compression check, injectors check. You still don't know if it's fuel or water yet remember?

Yes that's what I was going to say at the beginning but then realised I'll need an intercooler anyway, airbox had a quick look around and doesn't look easy to find .
Turbo , I really hope that's not it and before bring it to the mechanic I want to get my injectors cleaned up just in case .
Does that sounds right for the intercooler or should I spend £300 ?
Or you think my engine might be so bad I've got a chance is not even worth fixing it ?

After market intercooler will be fine as will the hoses.
Injector recon is not a diy job really.
Get the compression test done first, the test is usually done via the glowplug holes and you will need the injectors fitted to stop the air escaping. If the compression readings are bad, fix that before getting the injectors done.
If compression readings are good, get the injectors tested.

Ok,
For the injectors I found a place and it is fairly cheap , I thought about bring them there tomorrow ( they are already out ), because I am pretty sure they are ruined anyway , and when I made the "injector slakening test" 2 of them did not change anything while 2 others made it almost stall .
Plus I can't find a diesel compression tester apart from online which means few days to arrive.
You think I got over excited with that ?
Should I really put them back in and buy a tester online ?( should have done it today really but had so much thing to do I forgot )

Ok so turned out I found a way to get super fast delivery for the tester and should have it tomorrow evening ,
Should I wait for that before bringing the injectors to the shop ? But I don't have new washers yet though

Getting the injectors checked/refurbed is never a waste of money so I'd go ahead and sort them now they are out.
Is the compression tester definitely for diesel? It'll need to read up to 500 psi.
Your readings won't be that high but a good engine will be around 400psi on all four cylinders. Petrol testers only read to approximately 200psi.

Cool , so I'll do that , drop them in the morning pick them up even and then check the compression.

Yes it definitely a diesel , that's why I had to order online , all the shops around me are selling only petrol ones.
Aparently it go until 70bar which is 1000psi I think so should be plenty :)

I'll post the result here tomorrow evening but I should be hoping for around 400psi per cylinder then ? How much difference is it acceptable ?
