Hi guys,

Disco TD5 cranks but won’t turn over - the Fuel Pressure Regulator is leaking a fair bit. Could this cause a no start?

Cheers,

Robb

If the fuel pressure regulator is leaking, as you say "a fair bit" then there's a good chance that your fuel isn't being sent to the injectors at the correct pressure. Consequently the correct amount of fuel isn't getting squirted into the combustion chamber, if at all.
Get the FPR fixed and then see how things go. It is a bit of a faff to get at, but a fuel leak is never a good thing.

I have read somewhere that a leaking FPR can allow diesel to get past the bellhousing joint and affect the clutch. Is there an easy way to tell if it is leaking?

Thanks Brian, if that’s the case then I’ll order a new one and try it. Just wasnt sure whether to get a new Crabkshaft Position Sensor too.

I can stick my hand underneath it and feel the fuel leaking, but if it’s a less obvious leak you can stuff a paper towel under it and run the engine for a few mins - that should tell you! It’s bolted to the lower left of the engine block on drivers side.. you have to reach under the manifold - bit of a tricky position!

I will have a look on Wednesday when we get home. There has been intermittent slipping of the clutch, but my wife hasn't noticed it. It is only when it won't move at all that she will.

Another problem caused by FPR leak is that the fuel can reach the starter then it mixes up things there and the starter is spinning but can disturb the crank signal... IMO the leak in the diaphragm would not stop the engine to start and idle cos it can start even on low pressure just it doesnt have power.
