The Tdi is self bleeding, saves a load of faffing about when working on it.You don't even know if it is a fuel problem, unless you have checked the air intake pipes first.
And that is the pick up, you just remove the ring of screws, and take it out and look at it.
And I am fairly sure Tdi are self bleeding.
I had the same problem on my RRC 2.4 VM, it turned out the sedimenter hadn't been drained for years (before I bought it) and the whole system was blocking up with sludgey crud stuff, and I know not all defenders have sedimenters, but still could be crud in tank perhaps.
