Something strange has happened. ebay ID: mistpeakmedia has removed all it's listing adverts. The account is still there but there's no listings on it. When searching on ebay for recon engine repairs there's nowt coming up. They usually have another account on the go ready to re post their adverts. Wonder whats going on.

Example:

Ebay: 254907634052
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254907634052
ebay ID: mistpeakmedia

Hopefully it has something to do with their feedback...

Quick look on ebay and I came across a listing that didn't feel right. I have no idea if the company is real or not or if it’s the same scammers.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294368348177

Name of the ebay account doesn't match the named contact at the company.
Email on ebay doesn't match the named contact at the company.
Nationwide collection of yer vehicle.
Listing address is in Shropshire.
Registered address is in Brighton.
The ebay company address has one company registered to it which has nothing to do with cars.
has no visual connection to the company name.
Ebay username matches that of another company in the motor trade, with the addition of a 1 at the end. Don't see a connection with them and what they do.
Ebay account has a number of listings to do with vehicle engines.
Apart from a truck sale something like 6 months ago, no recent buyer feedback. Only feedback previous to this seems to be clothing sales.
No company website.
Google search of the phone number doesn’t come up with much. It’s as if it’s only just been taken out.

The latest ebay account i linked to above seems to have disappeared. Anyone know why? I get daily emails oft ebay reminding me of stuff i have looked at previously. This seller is no longer on said email.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294368348177

It was called sam-performance1

Using these phone numbers

0800 470 1014
0800 4701014
08004701014

l find it absolutely unbelievable that these people are still "trading" after over a decade off effectively scamming people and in some cases ruining or even stealing their vehicles.

The O/P of this thread l don't think he ever managed to recover his Discovery 4, valued at £20,000

lt seems that what these people do is, take cars in for "repair" then remove the engine plus other parts and ship them abroad, and dump the carcass in their yard.

Eventually they move on, and start again somewhere else.

The more I look at this the more it looks suspicious. No surprise the account has disappeared. I wonder if someone bought something from them and reported them to ebay when things went wrong. The link below won't work anymore because the account has gone:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294368348177

Ebay name was: sam-performance1

Which is a play on 'sam performance' which is a real car company and not linked to the scammers this fred is about. Looks like whoever owned the account was trying to mislead the reader.
Using a new phone number which doesn't link to other web sites on the web. That’s strange as most companies in the motor trade have a website. Even if it's only basic contact details.

Name and address on ebay were:
Cherian Mayhew
9 Winchcombe Road, Eastbourne, East sussex, BN22 8DE.

Which only has one company registered to that address, which looks to be nothing to do with the scammers. So possibly a book keeping or accounts address. Not seen that name before.
No vat number or proper company name in the address. Delivery address was Shropshire.

Quick look on ebay and I find another interesting listing:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324899499175

ebay username: automotive-engineering

Lots of officially registered companies with the same automotive engineering name, but the ebay listing doesn't give you the rest of the name so you can't link it to any of them. It could be 'buckets ltd'.

Also in Shropshire.
All history on previous sales is private and therefore hidden from view. No feedback in the last year.

Phone number 01952 915 013
01952 is a Telford number.

01952 915013

The photo's look good. Lots of vehicles in a workshop but no address. Looks like a substantial setup unlike the sunbeam street building. You would think they would be proud of it. They openly offer the opportunity to visit the work environment but don't tell you where it is.

anybody see al the evoques for sale by one guy on Ebay? , looks like he has took pics of peoples cars on their drive pmsl

While viewing this thread, an ad pops up “Range Rover sport td6 engines replaced, supply and fit”
I think you’re doing their job for them !

This crap is all to common. even possible legit deals look suspicious these days . Ebay is just a huge criminal marketplace as is much of the internet. You have no idea who your dealing with unless its a fairly tight circle of established users on a group .

I responded to an add on ebay for a 200tdi reputedly rebuilt with a "book" outlining the rebuild .. Oh Yeh, that would be a first .. Then in the add the text read the engine was bought FOR a project and in the resulting replies the engine was pulled from their rusty landy .. Asking if they could provide pics of the receipts etc they said unfortunately they were on holiday and wouldn't manage for a week.. However in the same e mail without any provocation they said they would reduce the price from £900 to £800.. LOL a cunning ruse to get a buyer to jump at the chance of a "bargain" I told them thanks but no thanks I will find another .. never heard a peep back from them .. Might have been genuine but the course of the communications didn't suggest it.
Suspicions : reconditioned engine with spurious documentation, Price: change in story, subsequent unsolicited price reduction: not available to provide evidence: add running while they cant assist with sale, why not wait and run the add when they got home ??

Don't be put off by the idiots who seem to think buyers are just there to part with cash without question. The term TIMEWASTER fits both sides .. asking for information isn't timewasting its part of the process of deciding if what you are being offered is suitable and worthwhile, even going to kick the tyres isn't a crime , saves buying there garbage and lets you see who your dealing with and if indeed you want to deal with them.. Got to admit I've walked away from deals based on the number of sovereign rings and gold teeth etc etc etc etc etc the "dealer" displayed ..

Question everything TRUST NO ONE.
