Hi Guys.

Im actually a P38 owner (dont make fun of me!!) but came across this 110 that i might be interested in working on. its here in ireland on UK plates so thought i might try it as a project motor. its been sitting up for like a year and looks like a bit of a rust bucket. but its free so might be worth investing a few squids in to have as an off road toy.

i have included some pics, im looking for any information on the engine (i know its diesel) if i need a replacement how much would one cost and what other pit falls might i be looking at?

sorry but i dont think its a 4182 ,cos my 4182 is different to that 1) mines an alloy rocker cover,,,2) mine has a square breather box in middle of rocker cover, 3) different inlet manifold,,, 4)mine has a universal exhaust manifold,;ie 4 way manifold,,,,down,up,back,front.....dunno if this helps...A lot of perkys have, a tin rocker covers aka the one shown, but they,r usually the older ,slower ones though;...dave

looks like a 2.8 daihatsu to me. one that breathes a lot looking at the breather into a bottle!

yeah breather bottle looks funny!! im thinking its gonna need a new engine just looking at it. there much to changing it? annd what engines can i use?

hope yer carry some oil !

or re use the spill from the breather :)

looks a rough F plate to me, thers some mint F reg 110 about , if yer look hard enough

worth doing as a rebuild, not a bodge ;)

t'int no series tho ...............;)

4182 is a 3litre perkins diesel retro fitted to some lr products by their owners, perkins make loads of engines but not all are compatible lrs,all will fit but their characteristics are all wrong(too slow, slow revving engines ect),sorry mate but i dont reconize that engine ,dont worry though cos someone on the forum will thats, for sure, they,ll be along sooner or later.......dave

looks jap anyway.
Depending what gearbox it has your option vary.
Presuming it has an lt77 diesel box the easiest option would be a 200 or 300tdi. both of which have come down in price and are relatively easy to put in. or a 2.5 na or td. or 2.5 petrol.
If it has a v8 box either lt85, lt77, or lt95 (4 speed) you can either put a v8 back in or something like an isuzu/nissan/mazda perkins etc with a conversion plate. This option will probabky cost more than a tdi conversion as you can normally pick up a running discovery full of rust for few hundred quid and use the engine.
Or replace the daihatsu with a good one (you may struggle on that one!!)

right some very interesting info there, i thinkk maybe the 200 or 300tdi engine for me!! something easy. i only want this thing for driving off road a few times a year. sounds like the simple cheap option??

cool, looks like i'll buy a 200tdi/300tdi engine and throw it in! seems the defender stuff is reasonably priced on flea bay, things like roof racks roof lights rear ladders etc. are parts for the old defenders reasonably priced?

Are you calling series landies 'old defenders' there? I sincerely hope not!

I wouldn't say any of it is too badly priced, but, none dirt cheap either. If you haven't already look at places like Paddocks, depending if you want the best bits on the planet or are happy with ok quality bits depends what you pay really.

Brit Part re-manufacture most Landie parts. Some people are happy with them, some people would avoid them like the plague.
