Hi, a couple of months ago I picked up a Land Rover 90 that had been sat in a field for the past 10 years (maturing of course), the previous owner used to use it for trails and such. Its a real mash off different LD's; 3.5l V8 and chassis from 1974 Range Rover, a 90's body (although the front end seems to be froma 110). This is my first project of this sort and was wondering if I could get some help identifying which parts come from where. :D

Are the pics working? :) anyone have any ideas where the interior is from? Not a 90 I don't think.

And is rust a massive issue MoT wise? There are holes going through the bulkheads near where the bonnet hinges are (I do plan know fixing this, I just mean rust in general). :D

As for rust, yes and no... the MOT tester will "tap" your chassis with a small hammer - holes near structural points is a fail.

On a side note, depending on when the chassis was changed, you may technically have a Range Rover which would be a win as 1974 is tax exempt. Look into this properly though ;)
 
Also looking at the rear wheel arches I'd say that was a series tub - I rekon somebody stuck a series body on a rangerover chassis to get coil springs, then stuck a 110 front end on to make it look like a later model - a poor mans defender of you will.
Should be an interesting rebuild :)
 
For what it's worth, is there any point replacing the bottom of the doors which have completely rusted? The car is only really gonna be used for offroading, so comfort is lot really a essential.

I'm going to assume that a hole in the bulkhead would be a fail then? Hahaha
 
Can you show us some pictures of the engine? And the chassis! But basically looks mainly S111 cab/tub but with a 110/90 front to take the V8. What makes you think it's a RR Chassis?
 
Yeah sure. I'll have to get the pics tomorrow, too dark now. Haha. Ermmm well the guy I got it off said that he used to own the RR in the 80's/90's, and eventually the body gave way (idk what actually happened) so they decided to salvage it and build what it is now. Unfortunately it was in the mid to late 90's that they built it, and his memory isn't brilliant haha.

Engine wise, it was a no starter for quite a while, resulting in me having to get it out the field under the starter motor. After alot of fiddling I sussed out that it was the carbs that were playing up, found a used set at a nearby scrap yard stuck them on, and she ran. They had k&n air filters attached so I left them on and now have a redundant air box, same goes for the lpg conversion that had been done.

It runs well(ish), had it out in the fields quite a bit to make sure everything is still functioning. Although after about 10mins of driving there is a massive power loss (to the point that I'm having to use low range to get it home), my belief is that the fuel pump has a leak or is generally useless, so I'm waiting on a replacement. :D
