If you dont want a center seat or cubby box and like a short gear stick close at hand go for it,you just have to be a bit creative with the tin work in that area.

Take note of what james martin says take it one step at a time it does'nt sound as your g box is at fault . Can you select all gears inc reverse?

if you jack one front wheel up with gear box in neutral and wheel locks your t/box is stuck in diff lock ,giving you wind up in transmission, you need to push difflock lever to drivers side if that dosent do it remove gearbox tunnel and where diff lock linkage enters t/box turn 13mm nut anti clockwise this will put it out unless switch just behind is wound in too far as this jams diff lock selector, often linkage needs setting to get diff to lock unlock ,this is done by adjusting pivot eye bolt halfway up linkage ,keep front wheel jack up while checking/setting to ensure it does both

i disconected all the linkage today and manualy tried to get it out off diff lock, with no luck  i even took the top off were the linkage goes in to the transfer box (3 x 13mm bolts on a triangle plate) and tried moving the shaft back but it feels rock solid!

well at least you found the fault , try undoing switch if in too far jams selector ,if not that 6mm allen screw next to it

i tried the switch but not the allen key yet will get on that tomorrow! any other idea if that dont work?

selector slides on shaft you can see through hole but isnt directly secured to it as there is a spring in between,i have occaisionally found shaft seized and had to remove core plug out of end of output housing and tap shaft with brass drift ,is there a little free rotational play in front prop flange or does it feel locked solid to back,as it is possible already out of diff lock but diff siezed up ,there is a set of 5mm wide dog teeth that are part of front shaft and set of splines on diff when in diff lock a collar is slid along diff over teeth on output shaft locking the two together but when locked there is rotational freeplay between the two
