Thought I'd celebrate my birthday by starting to dismantle my recently acquired 2a. Not sure I know that much about what I'm doing but it does appear everything is either rusted solid or falling apart. Except the alternator which is very shiny!

I had a very important part to play in today's work............ I got sent to halfords for two 10mm spanners :D
 
if its as it should be 11mm or 7/16 would be more useful:)
Of the sixteen or so bolts holding in the radiator panel , some were 11mm, some were 7/16, some were 10mm and one was half inch -, and lots had different sizes on each end . The new imperial spanner set the kids got him for his birthday was only partially useful today . Think the term is that it was a right buggers muddle

That's British engineering for you ;)
 
Did a bit more today. Got the floor and seat box out to reveal the gearbox. Two questions - shouldn't there a cover plate on the bellhousing, and what do these numbers mean on the end of the gearbox? There's no other serial number on there. Took the canvas off - very rotten, so that's going in the bin. Also, undecided whether or not to keep the roll cage!

yes there should be ,512237 is its number
those numbers dont mean anything useful, number are either on rhs rear of box top or along the t/box top front edge
 
Managed a few more jobs today. Near side wing off to see the state of the bulkhead. Thinking it might be better in the long run to just replace the whole bulkhead rather than repairing both sides! Engine out as well and removed all the wiring. The inside of the bell housing is fairly filthy! Tomorrow should see the gearbox out, offside wing off and the clutch / brake master cylinders and pipes out!

Only managed 3 hours today - but just got master cylinders, steering and windscreen to take off and then the bulkhead can come off!

The drivers side is as bad as the passenger side so, since we've taken it this far, a new bulkhead it is then!

More progress today. Bulkhead off and near side front wheel and hub removed. The more I take off the more there is to do! Good job Sam is very understanding!!
