Remember I'd be looking at a cheap, early L322 - a 2005 would be too expensive.

Looks like P38 is in the lead... who'd have thought that.

Yeah if that's the case don't buy an early L322 mate. Even like for like on all counts, the price of parts will be definitely higher.
 
i also have both, my l322 vogue is by far more pleasure to drive than my p38 but to be honest they are both fantastic cars in there own rights,my p38 still has whatever it needs to keep it in tip top shape and if looked after serviced and inspected regular it should serve you well, get a good well looked after later low milage with service history higher spec p38 and you shouldnt have much problems and they are easy and cheap to fix,the problem ive found is a lot of p38s fell into the hands of people who just about had enough money to purchase one leaving no spare cash for repairs, basically they saw one on the cheap thought wow thats alot of car for a little cash and did not realise the cost of running and repairs, therefore alot were badly maintained just to keep them mobile,
