Hi all im looking for a little advice concerning a tow bar for my 2008 Vogue, I've been looking on ebay and found 2 genuine westfalia tow bars with electrics and everything but are from pre2005 cars, what is the difference pre 2005 and post 2005 in terms of fitment and electrics compatability, thamks in advance
Chris.

Different electrics I believe.

Phone LR parts department, ask them if there is a different Ecu module for pre 05 and post 05 cars, i doubt there's a difference, but easy to check with the pro's. Is the ebay offer with the ECU as well as loom?
Does your car already have ECU installed, it will be a light grey box about 7x8cm (3"x3.5") on the extreme right beside fuse box in the rear right hand cuddy.....:pop2:

The electrics were totally updated 05 to 06, even the diagnostics for an 05 won't work on an 06.

looking on ebay the same genuine electrics kit fits all years 2002 -2009 but people say they do and some say they dont, its the same with the tow bars apparently the difference is with the exhaust bracket but it can easily be modifird but how? any ideas greatly received

If you buy on Ebay and it doesn't work you can get your cash back:)

just about to buy it for £150 with all electrics but minus the detachable ball, which are around £70 for a good used one, the guy assures me it will fit all years 2002 - 2009 and hes a range rover breaker so im assuming he knows his stuff?? What was that old saying "assumption is the mother of all F--- ups" or some thing like that !!!!

Dont speak about Datateks mother like that:)

I also thought the towbar electrics, at least, remained unchanged as your breaker indicated,

just had alook in the cubby theres a space beside the fusebox where the ecu should go and a large white wiring plug next to it which looks like the towbar electrics should plug into but no ecu is there, incidently the tow bar im looking at is a used one and the ecu looks to be attached to the end of the towbar loom

Sounds right to me, my own car did not have ecu fitted.
I would buy it and if worst case scenario it doesn't work, then flog ecu and buy one from LR, 70-80 quid, although i think yours will work.

The loom has two connection i think, one for ecu and one for fuse board, oh and an earth point on rear of spare wheel well. Good luck:)

Thanks for all your help, just spoke to a friendly dealer who informs me the tow bars differ in the mounting for the exhaust, they can be modified to suit either model with the welding of plates to mount the rear silemcer bolts, the wiring is the same but the ecu differ between the 2 models so to save all the hassles of finding the correct parts and modifying the brackets i will bide my time till the correct one appears at the right price. Thanks again

correct.

I have just fitted tow bar to 2005 and you need the early mechanical fitting.
electrics?
I would suggest going for a single 13pin unless you have equipment to tow woth the old config'.

+1 and buy a £5 adaptor for old trailers.
