Hi, I have a 2009 L322 Auto, Petrol. Overheating so changed both water pumps, engine and SC plus the hoses through the V of the block. Seemed OK then got a head gasket leak. Can anyone advise the book hours from the JLR service manual for the job to strip, skim and replace the heads? Job in progress. If it doesn't work there are loads of engine replacement companies. Has anyone used them and can recommend s reliable one?

I know yours is a 4.2l but there's little difference in terms of work involved - 18.9 hours for the left & 18.8 for the right on a 5.0 SC -but- it's rare to change both so you can halve the time for one side, giving a total workshop time of 28.3 hours. Head skim would be a 'contracted out' cost, there's likely to be further hours added for injector removal and replacement costs for the ones that will break, even using the JLR tool...

Ha! I've had a P38, 4.2LSE and a 3.9 in the past. The 3.9 had a dodgy engine, drank water unless you loosened the cap on the water tank so it didn't pressurise. Moved that on and got the LSE which was a bulletproof fabulous vehicle. Love the L322 it's a keeper but worried might have to get a replacement engine if the head gasket replacement doesn't work - if the block is warped..

Hence my question if anyone has had a replacement engine and can recommend a trustworthy supplier. There seem to be lots of them but who knows which is any good.

My 3.9 suffered the dreaded liner slippage at around 80k.
Still think the 'cost saving' LPG conversion (converted 10k miles previously) was a contributory factor. Did indeed save me money, right up to the point when a new short motor was needed :rolleyes:

Quite rare to hear of issues especially HG failure on the 4.2sc, generally classed as the most reliable RR engine.
