Hi,
I've recently bought 2002 L322 and its been nothing but a headache!
So first thing to go was the alternator so had that replaced and all was fine.
Washed it and this is where the real problems began, trans fail safe came up and it went into limp mode.
That seemed to go and now we are getting the Check side light (all bulbs work) HDC inactive, Air suspension etc faults coming up the car lowers and everything locks up. Local mechanic has said inhibitor switch needs changing could this really cause all of these faults? Or is this the start of an endless journey? i've also changed the brake light switch and the air suspension compressor has been changed in the last year. im going to give the battery a charge and see if that does it but any help would be appreciated!

Try cycling the steering wheel lock to lock to reset the steering angle sensor

Are they led bulbs in side lights or conventional?

Otherwise you’ll need to get fault codes read to confirm what the car thinks is wrong.

I've tried resetting the steering angle sensor to no avail it all just comes back up.
Bulbs are conventional.
The general mechanic we use plugged it into his diagnostics and all that came up neutral safety switch i just have a feeling that this wont cure all these issues. Thanks for the reply.

Hi and welcome:)

As everybody with the L322 will tell you battery is so important, it will give all sorts of spurious faults.
Make sure it’s tip top and go from there. If it’s not then fit the biggest you can get ( it not much bigger as space is tight)
Once battery confirmed good and if you still have problems then proper LR diagnostics is required.
Search on here and you will find many battery related L322 issues.

Good luck:)

Hi,
Thank you :)
Yep think battery is next on the list. I think selling it is also

You are not supposed to wash them especially if you used a pressure washer, they leak like a sieve and the water can get in the electronics.

Don’t be a quitter:) when she’s running nice you will soon love her.

@Datatek
Can I wash mine yet:D
That was a week ago it now has a yellow haze of walnut tree pollen on it.

And pressure washer twice a year is no problem ,1 just before tech test because if it not clean they won’t test:rolleyes:

Funny you say since you washed it - I think you are right. These vehicles are prone to water ingress and electronics suffer even from condensation if left standing outside (forecourts etc). Early L322’s weren’t the best they made, more than likely this is the start of a long journey til she starts behaving, for a little while

I know for the 2 weeks we had no problems it was definitely one of the best cars I’ve driven. Just not practical for everyday use :(.

So frustrating as beyond the battery it literally could be so many things.

Do you take the plunge?:D

Does sound like battery is dying or being drained if it ran okay for fortnight. Once they go low computers start going crazy and things pretend to be faulty. There could be other minor issues but if Gbox/engine etc are all good - it’s doable :)

Battery is big spend but tip-top one is big necessity for L322 - you may need one every few years - it will make a difference. Uprating battery on my RR (less computerised version of yours) cured half the initial problems and has been worth every penny. There is plenty of help here if you do decide to work through it. Look up some threads by @Saint.V8

Which diagnostic system did he use? Some will not read Range Rovers correctly, thus showing a fault, but the wrong one. A 100% battery and ciorrect diagnostics are a must. Then start down the slippery slope to purgatory.

Yep dems the ones....

The fact that the inhibit lamp is on (without you manually selecting it!) indicates it is in a soft fault mode - there are two fault modes, hard and soft, a hard fault is when the system cannot maintain stability or determine vehicle attitude, so it shuts down to prevent danger or further damage and sinks to the bump stops...and soft which is when the vehicle can kind of determine its position so it goes to standard height and stays there - most common soft faults are a weak air compressor or a plausability fault of one of the height sensors.....

Also, a soft fault will occur when one of the other systems on the CANbus goes into fault - most commonly the ABS system....first thing to do is get it on diagnostics and see why it has gone into a soft fault mode....but look in all the systems on the CAN for faults - ABS, EAS, Headlamp Leveling, Transmission and Transfer Box.

Diagnostics is the first port of call and then go from there.

Thank you again for your replies so I’m looking at a hard fault here as it does sink and is not drivable when all this flashes up. Do you have any idea what hard faults can be?

If it sinks when parked, there is an air leak maybe from one of the suspension air springs, not uncommon.

No, this is a soft fault if you have the lights still lit on the control switch - a soft fault can still sink to the bumps. A hard fault is indicated by all the lights being out on the control switch.

Ok cool. So I need to find a LR specialist with a proper diagnostic tool.
