It's the GM gearbox that fails not the ECU and the box is not coded.
The gm and it's valve block fitted to the l322 and x5 bmw weren't the greatest of manufacturing choices unfortunately.. Zf all-day long

Certainly an interesting idea, I was eyeing up the v8 ZF, if the controllers aren't coded then it's 5' of wiring loom and an adaptor plate... lovely big torque converter and a box with the rating for the engine, perfect for hauling my caravan around the country.
