Hi All,
a couple of weeks ago I was so lucky to be surprised with the dreaded water ingress and its consequenses. No navigation, radio, cd and cassette. Also the Airsuspension Inactive alarm came up. Found LH side front sunroof drain blocked. Trying to unblock it with a liquid, non aggressive, deblocker. Alarm reset by dealer and suspension back in working order. Only I am not sure the blocked drain is the (or the only) cause because after taping the sunroof the water was there again, now in the spare wheel well (and nothing on the entertainment units!). I would like to check whit a hose where the water comes in but I have no idea how to remove the interior trimmings at the rear. I know push-on fittings are used but where do I pull, push or slide? Also I could only remove the TV-unit, the other units are bolted to a black vertical mounting plate but underside bolts are not accessible. How do I get to those bolts so I can take them out. Or is there another way, removing the mounting plate? I am desperate and every help or hint is appreciated!!!
PS. Yes, I still love the car...............
Range Rover Vogue TD6 2002.

Morning Dirk, you now have 2 threads going:) If you want a hand give me a call. Can't do today, out digging a trench for the farmer up the road as soon as the temperature goes up a bit.

His original post was moved from another Forum into the Range Rover section...hence the double posting!!

Hi All,
I would like to thank Datatek and Andy of RangeRoverbreakers for all their help!!
Andy's tips made it all clear to me and the DSP unit was removed in no time!
If anyone has the same problem just ask and I'll put Andy's tips forward.
Datatek had a go at the corroded connectors and repaired a broken off pin, a real wizzard!
He also checked the inside but could find any damage and put photo's of the corroded connectors on this site.
Still have to put the units back but I'll keep you posted.
Datatek and Andy; thanks again, you're aces!
Dirk

have you got water shedder fitted? part num eot500030? ive ordered one today only about £10 , ive read up on this extensivly , had same prob.it appears the quater light window is the main offender, may only leak in extreme conditions. fit the water shedder and sleep easier when its ****ing it down :)

The units were all protected with a plastic cover, not the expensive LR one.
Condensation was still a problem, it even affected the connector to the compressor in the wheel well, so don't sleep too easy.
Blocked sunroof drains also contribute to the water problem.

yer, it seems to be several factors, do you think smearing vasaline around the connectors after they are fitted would be a good idea? or not as the case may be?

should i blather it on ? or just a smear?
I put a smear on the connector face, it's non conductive so don't want it to get on the pins, then when the connector is fitted I go round the joint.
Not done it on these units yet but used it many times on other stuff and height sensor connectors on the P38:)

It is of course absolutely essential that every trace of oxidisation is removed from the plastic of the connectors before re-assembly.

Hi All,
units have now been installed but still no nav and sound:mad:. Next week I'll be back in Holland and will go to a BMW car electronics specialist. He told me he has a complete wiring loom of a X5 with all attached units agaist the wall and by replacing the units one by one he can find out which one(s:D) is not working correctly. If all units are okay he'll check the wiring and bus cabling. He says he sells all units second hand. Because the Nav unit was litterly drowned (filled with water) and
showing substantial damage to the printed circuits I think that's the culprit.
I didn't have the original water shedder fitted but I had plastic sheeting covering the units but apparently I didn't do it good enough:(.
But I would like to inform Paulsavey that in my case the LH side front drain of the sunroof was completely blocked. If your side window leakage is not proven, checking the drains is worthwhile I think! I managed to get it draining better with a sink de-blocker but it is not completely unblocked, I am going to give it a try with compressed air next.
I'll posts the results of the Dutch specialist asap.
Oh, and before I forget I wish you all a troublefree RR year.

Hi Datatek, seeming font of all knowledge ;) Don't suppose you could post a pic of said plastic protection and location. At this moment I don't have a swimming pool for my rear quarter and would like to keep it that way but not sure where to cover. :D

i had a little paddling pool in my spare wheel well last week. luckily theres a handy rubber grommet in the floor that doubles up as a drain hole for now ! lol :D

i cant find out where the bloody water is coming in though ?

think the left window is the usual culprit ? any ideas saint ? :)

From what I have read and can gather....similarly to the P38 tail gate rubber seal...the L322 can leak too...

If your sun roof drains are clear, the next culprit could be the Roof Rack 'hatches'.

there is a Tech Bulletin on this from the Land Rover GTR...but damned if I can find it...
