It would be a bit like waking up one morning and finding my wife, the mother of my children, whom I love and adore is actually a high class hooker! I'm in need of counseling!

She is, the children are mine (hadn't you noticed the Yorkshire twang) And I can recommend an excellent councillor (I own a td4) ;)

The EVRY mod was in fact the brainchild of one of the fellas who apparently helped develop the pump control system - it's called the EVRY mod, as it was part of his forum name :)

As for extra poke - shove in the SDi injectors, and the EVRY mod. For 99% of hippo drivers, it's the only mods they'll ever really need to do. With those, and the boost adjusted, I was able to sit on the redline in 5th... it just about got over 100mph (GPS speed) :p

The ton in a L Series! I don't wanna die, just want to be able to go up steep hills and over rocks with bigger tyres. Don't care about peak HP, just looking loads of torque. :)

Remind me again DD, how long did your Freelander last in your ownership before it expired?

Speed limit here is 100.... kmh - so 60mph. It seamed like a snail's pace coming from the UK. Distances are large and the copper's appear to have lavish Christmas Balls - after 1 ticket in the UK in 20 years driving, I got heaps here so gradually slowed down and am happy poodling along at 60 now. Its nice to get to the hilly/twisty bits though 'cos you can wake up and start driving again - if I could take those in 5th there would be no pleasure in driving - so I'm happy with my bog standard L Series :)

Well I went with DDs advice! Sure I'm DD too! Fitted zr turbo, sdi injectors and upped the boost. Massive improvement smokes like a bitch, so obviously a big increase in the amount of fuel. I then fitted the evry mod. Now it still goes really well and only smokes a bit. Overall I'm well chuffed.

Although 60Mph seems slow by UK standards. The scenery is much nicer, so why race through it? It's much better to enjoy looking at what's around you and save on fuel at the same time;)

So there is there any real benefit to fitting the Ron box over the Evry mod?
Is it just the Ron box give the same power gains but with better control at idle?

Yours would have had the 'ZR' spec turbo fitted as standard - hence absolutely no difference at all in performance of the turbo. Upping the boost obviously would have helped.
The 'airspec' of the 100500 (ZR turbo is absolutely the same as the 100490 that yours had - totally no difference (confirmed by Garrett and by CHRA spec). The veryearly freelanders had the 100400 turbo which is of a lesser spec. :). hence much confusion exists re any advise to fit a so called 'ZR' turbo. It is only of any benefit if you have the 100400 model fitted. Most of any performance increase prior to modding the pump feedback circuit is from the boost increase.

Funny that because I've only just adjusted the pump. And that was to reduce smoke. The performance came from the injectors and extra boost.

Hi Alibro,
No benefit at all - not really. I will look at modding the design to incorporate an idle disable. The cost of the components are pence. )

Hi D DO, agreed, the extra boost make a great deal of difference - night and day. I presume you have upped it to around 19 or 20 psi ?. it really makes a great difference. The turbo spec I can vouch for 100% (the early 100400 unit was indeed lower spec) - as said, the later unit - the 100490 is exactly the same specification (air spec) - and indeed CHRA module as the ZR - the only difference is the turbine housing which needs swapping over - even this though is the exact same turbine wheel as the ZR and the same A/R on the turbine.
It is also interesting the the pump mod 'reduced' smoke ? - not quite sure why...
(for me- the jury is out on the actual benefits of the injector change when other mods are used (eg pump mods)(purely IMHO) - but I do trust Dan's tests and opinions, and he considers them a small increase on the freelander so so be it. I would have thought any gain from the small differences in the injectors (SDi to Freeby) would be more than made up for by the pump mod ? - all interesting stuff for a self confessed nerd like me lol :.
I will (as I mentioned above) - look at publishing a circuit (simple) to cut off the evry mod at idle using - probably - the idle switch in the TPS unit and a simple transistor switch..
I still love that piccy of your freeby - it is simply the best I have seen - I think you also have one with even bigger boots on ? - a work of art mate.

Similar here apart from some toll roads where it is 120kph. most of the time - on the tolls we sit at 110 (68.5 MPH) - same a 120 (75 MPH) even where the freeby is quieter than the bride's already quiet 2010 Panda with 28k Km on the clock ! - rest of the time it is it usually no more that 60 Kph where you get a beautiful view and relaxed drive. It is comfortable in that in 4th for 90% of the time unless we get a big twisting hill where sometimes drop to 3rd. It was a PITA before the clutch was done and the crank rear seal due to judder - yuk - but is now lovely to drive. Went to Espinhos today from Entre-os-Rios (to my mates freeby garage to fir the towbar (he has a lift and I dont do lying under cars these days when he charges 20 euros an hour and all he deals with is freebies !!! ) - along the banks of the Douro river into Porto - absolutely beautiful. - 20 euros and a free cold beer for the towbar fitting - happy days.....
Don't understand comments re L series sluggish or smokey - mine is neither - I think it is lovely engine that is well suited to the vehicle. The biggest issue I had was the (common) issue of the 'advance / retard) solenoid (or more correctly - the commencement of injection solenoid) - a constantly variable PWM driven closed loop unit on the VP37 sticking - yuk - made it sound like a bloody tractor .... I can now tell a sticking or buggered COIS unit by ear - it is horrible.
I have never seen smoke from mine (in the rear view mirror or any traces on the rear end.

My need for power (apart from the basic fun of doing it :)) is for off road excursions and I want as much gain as I can get low down due to the lack of low range. I am also seriously still considering the final drive change - but - will see what the boost changes (20 PSI) and remap do first. _ The biggest boost so far in drive-ability at low revs was dumping the cat. The turbo spools much faster and I can hold on to gears for a longer time with no effort.
I will have both a standard and modded (mapped) ecu so also want to play with the EVRY mod and a few tweaks to that as well.. All good fun.

I'm with Skinny mike - It wasn't that expensive before you moved... Mike's kids seem to be doing ok - apart from thinking a Kiwi Fruit is a limp wristed Audi TT driver (Yorkshire upbringing ya know :))
When you consider that Marriage is grand, and a divorce may be 150 !!! - the hooker actually makes a lot of sense - and they never argue. - or complain o_O - or - have a headache .... ;).......

Basically - If it Floats, Flies or Fecks yer brains out ,...... bloody well lease it !!!!:D

You lot are causing me more grief. I'm actually beginning to think that politicians might be telling the truth when they say their quotes are taken out of context.

You lot are gay. I'm actually beginning to think that policemen are sexy. My quotes are 100% truthful.

We'd never take you quotes out of context:rolleyes:
If you like policemen, that's fine by us. Just don't tell us where your putting the truncheon
