Hi I have a rr vogue l322 2007 with the ignition next to steering wheel.

The key won't turn in the barrel to turn off. I have managed with a screw driver next to key to get it to move to position 2 so it will turn off but won't move further than that to get key out and have had to disconnect battery. It will switch back on though.
It happened once before about 6 months ago and with spraying degreaser into barrel and using a screwdriver it suddenly just clicked off and has been fine ever since until now. it seems mechanical as had battery disconnected when it clicked back so nothing like a soleniod holding it.

I tried it just in case but it's not the gear selector switch as won't even get to that position.
I have stripped the dashboard out before to get to barrel when had the can't switch on problem (fuse 18 etc) so I know it's a git to get too so just wondering if any ideas before I strip it down.
Anyone know what's inside the barrel that would stop it turning one way but not the other?

Key won't come out ignition unless gear lever is in park, so you sure it's not that a problem there ?

Yes tried that, I manipulated the arm next to gear lever and could hear the lever in ignition click on and off. It doesn't turn thar far though. If gear lever was issue I could turn all way to position 1 but not take key out. I can't even turn back it past position 2. Originally couldn't even turn it that far.
Reading about ignition barrels it looks like worn key or barrel. As says they can turn one way but not the other if worn. I've ordered some graphite spray for locks see if that works.

I know they're different years but it sounds like the reverse of an issue that I sometimes find. I have two solutions to my 'won't turn' to start. First is a fit as a butcher's dog battery. Which often makes moving the key easier. The second is a barrel solution. It involves pressing in, gently, with the key as I turn it. This seems to allow free movement. It might work it might not, but sometimes starting simple can save a fortune :)

Hi yes thats what I'm hoping for a simple fix. I don't think battery is an issue as said when it happened 6 months ago I had disconnected the battery when it finally released. I have got some electrical contact cleaner from work today so will spray that down barrel tonight and leave. Then I thinks it's just a case as you say of a lot of wiggling and jiggling. It worked last time. Just hope a lot of wiggling and swearing at it will get it to move.
Hoping if do get it out using another key will solve and it's a worn key not a barrel replacement.

Do you have a way to blow out dirt and dust , etc before spraying the electrical contact cleaner? Apart from anything else blowing out dirt/dust might help the issue? Another suggestion is clean the key itself. You'd be amazed how dirty a key gets. Fingers crossed you get an easy , simple, solution.
