Hi am after some help with my key fob. Here are my problems,

Changed batteries in my fob and entered key code, yet buttons fail to work. Have tried all routes of putting key in lock and turning while pushing buttons etc but still nothing. So basically now I need to enter key code every time I wanna start the engine. Is there anything else I can try with regards syncing the key or is it a case of getting a new fob?

Many thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum. :welcome2::welcome2::welcome2:
This procedure worked for me on my Year 2000 petrol V8.

Put key in drivers door lock.
Press and hold lock button
Turn key to lock position (Towards rear of car on right hand drive vehicles)
Release button and turn to 12 o’clock position
Press and hold unlock buttonTurn key to unlock position (Towards front of car on right hand drive vehicles)
Release button
Remove key
Done

Suggest you add your location and year and model of car to your profile. There may be members near you who can help.
Good luck and please post if it works for you or not.

You should not need to enter the key code after changing the FOB batteries. Does the LED light on the FOB when you press the buttons?
If not have you got the right batteries, are they in in the right way up, have you damaged the side contact?
Read your owners hand book, depending on year you may need to re-sync the FOB.

I had something similar happen to mine after changing the batteries, what seemed to work for me was running the engine, kill it, jump out and lock the door with the key while holding the lock button down. According to AutoData this has to be done within 20 seconds of turning off the engine.

It sync'd up nicely after that.

Hi all thanks for the tips will give em a try when back from a works trip. Key fob was working fine before battery change, are definatly the same batteries. Just getting a solid red light on me fob.

Carefully remove the rubber button cover and have a clean up underneath it. Sounds like one of the microswitch buttons is jammed in.

G~

So I've only had the car for about two weeks now. I noticed that I cannot lock the doors or activate the alarm when I'm more than 15 ft from the car using the key fob. Does anyone have this issue also?

HI , CHECK 1, THE RUBBER RING IS STILL THERE . CHECK 2 , THAT THE METAL CONNEC TOR IS STILL THERE , CHECK 3, THAT THE BATTERIES ARE INSERTED THE RIGHT WAY UP, FINALLY CHECK 4 THAT THE LITTLE PYRAMID ON THE OUTER CASE LINE UP WITH THE LOCKING RING I,E, ON THE ACCESS CIRCLE WITH SLOT IN , REGARDS MOZZ. + HOW MANY FOBS HAVE YOU ?

And it is 90's tech, our volvo picks up about 3miles away:p... But has an 11 second error margin and locks again if your not in quick enough, just like the '38.:)

Well that’s something I don’t have to worry about it’s only ever worked twice in 23 years
