Dave, out of interest what was the mileage on the car?
Have you looked to see if you can source a same spec car for the same money/miles?
As a heads up on value iv just gone threw this with the insurance company an 05/06 D3 hse spec low miles and full dealer service history was booked at £5350. Any one who pays more than book or what an insurance company will give you in the event of a write off is mad

If you've done the clutch on a D3, you'd go for the auto. The D3 clutch can last as little as 25K miles too, if the driver doesn't use low range for slow speed manoeuvres.
I did a D3 clutch which was worn to the rivets at just 25K miles since the last change. However it was used as a tow vehicle, pulling a 3 ton trailer quite often, and I know that few driver's would use low for manoeuvring the trailer.Is that even on the flat or on hills? tbh bar 1 clutch in my first car ive never had to change another one as I'm quite careful with them

But 25K isn't a very long service life for a clutch, especially a huge one like that fitted to the D3.
I'd expect to see a normally used D3 clutch last over 60 K miles, but it's all down to the driver really.
