That's £12 for a D3 specific one as well, I really am a tight git :p tbf i am saving pennies for when I find what this nasty grinding noise is, sounds expensive

What grinding noise?
Have you checked all the obvious bearings/driveshafts etc

As a heads up on value iv just gone threw this with the insurance company an 05/06 D3 hse spec low miles and full dealer service history was booked at £5350. Any one who pays more than book or what an insurance company will give you in the event of a write off is mad

Problem is, and its always the way that if its due cambelts or other large items etc its worth less but if its had em done someone will charge more had same recently with my mondeo that got written off before xmas becuase it had fsh i got more money for it

If you've done the clutch on a D3, you'd go for the auto. The D3 clutch can last as little as 25K miles too, if the driver doesn't use low range for slow speed manoeuvres.

Is that even on the flat or on hills? tbh bar 1 clutch in my first car ive never had to change another one as I'm quite careful with them

I did a D3 clutch which was worn to the rivets at just 25K miles since the last change. However it was used as a tow vehicle, pulling a 3 ton trailer quite often, and I know that few driver's would use low for manoeuvring the trailer.

But 25K isn't a very long service life for a clutch, especially a huge one like that fitted to the D3.

I'd expect to see a normally used D3 clutch last over 60 K miles, but it's all down to the driver really.

That's sounds a bit better, I doubt I'd be doing much if any towing with one as would mainly be used a family wagon although the 2013 shape ford ranger has crept on my radar now more so from a reliability point of view
