Finally just bought my first discovery 2 today 2001 101k FSH and overall nice straight and unabused

Here is the link to the eBay link of it.....

I managed to chip him down to £3575 as the passenger door latch is hit and miss, chassis has some surface rust at the read had a good inspection on it still all solid so nothing a good rubbing back and u underseal wouldn't sort and some rear pads.

Soon as I got it home I took it upto a local patch near us to try it out...... Rather slippery and not a massive amount of traction but the tyres dos not help although first time off road and it was very good fun.

Few questions for you long time owners

1. What's the best under seal to put underneath as I plan on cleaning the chassis up asap
2. Can anyone recommend a competitive supplier for a passénger front door latch/lock
3. Steering box has a very slight leak. Any good additives anyone can recommend to see if I can stop it like that as first attempt?

I'm looking forward to buying some guards and chunky tyres etc

Thanks

Also down at low Revs between 800-1500rpm there's a humming noise coming from what I believe is the power steering pump? Anyone had this and have any idea if it's something I should be worried about? Or maybe it's normal? I'm not that bothered by it but if I know what's what I can sort it if needed.

Thanks

That's great cheers for that. Do you replace all the power steering fluid with this or just too it up until is seals?

Thanks

use it all,if you can,it is a genuine power steering fluid, but with additives etc.Works great in auto g/boxes as well.

As for undersealing - I've been looking into this too as I've just bought my first disco 2 and it needs treating.
Waxoyl seems to be the way forward. Top end professional prices seem to be about £500 which is a hell of a lot.
It needs wire brushing, steam cleaning preferably with degreasing, then waxoyling.
I read somewhere that to buy all the kit for this costs under £200.
Best performed on ramps with a large tarp and mask/goggles/overalls as it gets everywhere.

I think for now I'll just give the worst areas a quick going over with a waxoul aerosol, then get it done properly in the summer/autumn.

Oh and if you want chunky tires, might be worth holding on until July as BFGoodrich are releasing the new All Terrain 2 tyre. Those could be nice.

Looks good, just like mine

Won't be long till you want a 2nd one!

Hammerite make a good underseal which has waxoyl in it. I paid about £23 for 3litres, mine came in a cartridge so it needed to be applied with a shutz gun which are cheap to buy but you need a compressor, it does come in aerosol cans but will be more expensive I should think.
