I thought I would revive this thread to report on a couple of small jump start packs I have bought.
The first one I got was a Noco GB40. It sort of works. Seems nicely built and got a diesel Sprinter with a dead battery moving again, but I think it was only just.
I wanted another unit for my other van but, since the Noco didn't work as well as I had hoped, I did a bit of research on YouTube. What looked like a fair and practical review showed an Audew 1500A unit working where the Noco failed so I bought one of these on Amazon. Have just had the need to use it on a 2 litre petrol engine and it spun over as if it had a new, freshly charged battery fitted. Deeply impressed.

In the course of my research I read up a bit on super capacitor jump starters. These are hopeless if you have left your lights on and completely flattened your battery, but great for an old battery that has lost a cell so that it's down to 10V and has gone high resistance. I guess they have a DC to DC converter built in to charge the capacitor up to a higher voltage than that of the battery. Very clever stuff.

Best of both worlds would be a hybrid lithium and super capacitor unit such as the ones made by Sealey. Crazy expensive at about £260 - but what a great gadget!

I have a 900 CCA tractor battery that cost €90 and does exactly the same job and is less polluting than a Li-Ion battery

Fair point well made, but I had an intermittent issue with something flattening the van battery and didn't want to cart around a full size battery or jump pack. It would take a lot of grease and a long run up to get your tractor battery into the glove compartment and it might be tricky getting it out again. Lead acid jump packs are usually flat by the time they are needed but the lithium ion batteries hold their charge quite well.

I will look into getting one too

The prices seem decent on ebay,
Can anyone recommend me any from ebay?

Mind you, I'd like a good booster pack for the garage

Trick with these is to have two people. Connect it and crank immediately.
If you connect one to a flat battery it will go flat in a minute or so.
That said, they do work well, mine has fired up both my p38 and l322.

I did buy a Streetwise 400A in 2017, needed it last month and it wouldn't turn the engine over on a 1.6. I didn't think these things deteriorated over time.

I have a little Lithium Starter pack, It will start a 6L Petrol or up to 3L diesel (there are bigger ones available).
It charges up from a USB port like a phone and is good for up to 20 starts. Also has a torch & an SOS beacon built in.
I am very impressed with it. NOCO Ultrasafe is the name on it.

Hanix H15B customer special version. It's knackered but good enough for keeping the mill stream clear etc.

Handy little Machines, they can fit in any gap, plus with the smaller ones the boom is front mounted, rather than to the right , giving good visibility
