Hi All
I'm new to the site but a long term freelander owner.
I bought an 02 Freelander ES at the weekend (private), after the cam belt sapped on my V reg, the car is mint low mileage etc but i noticed after it was driven for a while that when i was pulling away from junctions in 1st gear the car judders and doesn't like it, i can pull away without a problem in 2nd and it doesn't do it every time in 1st but i am concerned that there could be a bigger issue. any ideas? would be grateful for your help.:confused:
 
When you say judders does it feel like a misfire? A kind of wobble? I have something similar and am following an injector problem potentially.
 
I was always led to believe it's the dual mass flywheel causing this problem. Usually. It could be oil contamination of the clutch, of course.
 
Mine does it in 1st and 2nd and also in top at approx 2700 RPM - it does it stationary as well so eliminates all drive train. DMF and clutch is new - it did it before as well.

It has had all injectors checked and they are all good so it's booked in on Thurs for a diagnostic.

I am still interested in the outcome of the original posting.
 
mine did it when pulling away too, replaced rear diff brackets and prop shaft bearings pulls away fine now even with horse box in tow
 
I'd guess at the DMF, it sounds like one in the early stages :(

However, before chucking a load of money at the possible problem I'd get a ruddy big pry bar and crawl under the car, check out all the bearings and mounting rubbers for excess play, if you find any, fix it, the play would have needed dealing with anyway, and it might save you the cost of a clutch :)

Four wheel drives are complex beasties, there is a lot under there to go wrong and as most of it rotates most of it can cause vibration one way or the other, so start with cheap parts when trying to fix it :D
 
Well mine has been a combination of things - there was a loose mounting for the gear lever rods also the bearing hangers while aligned were not perfect and then the lower tie bar was a bit worn as is the tear diff mount - none knackered but the combination is contributing to what I will call a torque wobble.

Just got diff mount to do - the wobble is much better with the other things done hopefully the diff mount will clear it.

I wouldn't go DMF if I were you yet.
