ickle bit of a pictureless update and progress report

today ive washed the sump out and the oil filter housing bowl new filter and copped for a face full of black runny oil when i dropped the bugger in the drain pan i was using ( 2 baths later i still look like im wearing fookin guyliner )

cleaned the oil pickup sieve thingy and refitted that sump back on with a new gasket and a layer of that gastight sealant stuff on each side of that

head cleaned out good n proppa and refitted with another brand new head gasket ( one of those new sticky coated fekkers that bearmach are doing ) came out of the £35 full head refurb set

this time i set the friggin torque wrench meself to 90lb/ft not 90nm  and set all me tappets up to 0.10 with the feelers then checked and double checked me valve timing with the DTI gauge borrowed from the engineers and the fine wire needle sight trick and evrything is bang on with TDC

primed and built up oil flow to the head and hand cranked it to make sure its flowing correctly round the rocker ports and bearing surfaces and all is well with that

refitted the manifolds using the old new gasket from last time as i cant see anything wrong with the bugger

and tomorrow i think im gonna refit the fuel injectors but check them for spray pattern again before i do then refit the rocker cover and the glow plugs and she should be good to go

then its just a case of plug me ears gasmask on fingers eyes legs bollix and toes crossed and prey its fookin right this time :rolleyes:

what did he hone it with jc

didnt clock the make of it but it rather looked like a big plasterers mixing drill with an industrial 4 leg honing tool on the end attatched by a beefy looking driveshaft cv joint

nothing like the spring loaded 3 leg glazebusters we get from the likes of machine mart :rolleyes:

it looked fookin lethal but his trick was making 4 funnels out of 2ltr coke bottles with rubber hoses in the necks to catch and drain th shyte straight off the bottom of the bore and into the catch tray underneith ( trapped the coke bottle tops in using the crankshaft journals as a wedge ) ;);)

bloody cleffer bloke he was :D:D

thought it looked better than usual diy tools ,honing is key especially after a rebore ,as you need to remove bored surface

it amazed me to be honest that machine as he bored it out to 1 thou under size then honed the last bit out to finished size wich took literally 2 mins per bore after he set up :cool:

And if you're ever in the mood for a break, there's as much coffee and as many bacon sarnies as you can get down ya neck here..:D:D:D:D

fired it up and it ran perfect smoothe as fook with next to no smoke and sounded absolutely sweet .............but !!!!

filling the radiator up it starts ****ing water out the right side of the head and all over the floor ...............it appears ive put the fookin head gasket on upside down :doh:

gotta spend me afternoon ripping it appart to turn it over again now coz im not forking out for a fookin nother one

Oh no! hope it works...When I cracked the head on my "sticky" head gasket it had proper stuck after about 5 minutes! Luckily I had two...anyone got a diesel one they can rush over to Manc land for Johnny?

reet i got real lucky with the head gasket and it came off in one go with no tears or peeling thank fook

now just got the head back on and torqued down and had to fook off out to shift a load of timber for me other little project when this is done ( oh yes i have a 7 foot x 5 foot trailer sat on the drive ) needs new sides and floor wich id cadged off the builders doing the facelifts on the tin houses round here :D:D:D

then i can use the combination to take all the **** round here to the tip :D:D:D

Ya lemon :rolleyes::D

reet boys n gurls eres the final update written while im sat ere half ****ed from the celebratory 5 tins of rocker fella :D:D:D

stripped it all down again and turned the head gasket the right way up reset me tappets to correspond with the manual filled it with water and only a couple of small weeping leaks from rubber hose joints round the water pump ( nothing to worrying just needs new jubilee clips )

after charging the battery during the afternoon i finaly got it bled up and started

she just needs a small tweak on the fuel pump for the little whisp of white smoke and a couple of the tappets sound a little noughty and need readjusting so thats the little jobs for tomorrow but otherwise shes a proppa good un :D:D:D:D

had her round the block with a little black smoke at first but that soon settled down once she'd warmed up properly and has all the power i could want with plenny of pickup when yer bury yer foot in 4th

so glad i went for the rebore now instead of fitting something daft like a 300tdi or similar

now all she needs is 1 tyre for the back end the windscreen washer jets either making or buying and at least another litre of oil in the rear diff and she should be good to go :dance:

i might treat her to a new drop plate and towball if she passes :D:D:D
