im located in portsmouth

thanks lads keep em comming its all being noted !!! i did try to pull the carpet up but like mentioned theres that plastic bit...so i pul that out ? easy ? then lift the carpet up...

what should it look like exactly ?

i gave it all a good knock with my fist etc and had a good tap around

i fully understand about buyers getting excited etc

but ..the chassis looked as good to me as the jap import and all looked solid and nice

however...i really cant afford to buy a lemon , are there any local members on here to the portsmouth area ?? if so send me a pm if you can come take a look at it tomorrow, id dearly love that !!

also on a disco of this age...is a "little bit" of rust ok ? surely so ? would a mint one be found ?

all under the arches and inner wings etc all looked ok to me , couldnt really find fault , but i know nothing about discos !!

the jap import one..had nice rear wings bits, but same money and was imported 10 yearsa go still, it didnt look as nice, had steel wheels, paint issues on the bonnet and roof -looked tired

i really really want to avoid making a mistake with buying this, hence i posted on here before going back tomorrow with the reddies, but il also be overjoyed if the cars not bad and a good purchase

just pull the carpet from under neath the plastic peice you mention , when its up your soon see , also check inner rear wheel arches whilst carpet is up

That rear arch and wing are far too heavily rusted for the rest of the vehicle to have got away with no further rust. Remember you are buying a whole vehicle, not just an interior!

Undo and remove the trim strip in the boot near the back door and lift the carpet. I bet it ain't silver anymore!

how do i undoo it exactly ??

i knwo im not buying just the interior, in had a good look around and under it, it looks ok

however i am aware.. so really need to go check it properly tomorrow before handing over the cash, i cant afford to make a mistake here

please god let there be someone local who can come n check it out tomorrow for a drink !!!

anyone near portsmouth/chichester area who can help ?

The trim is held down with half a doz or so posidrive screws. As peeps have said take a screwdriver and have a good poke around underneath.

but how can you base that as better condition ?? looking at them pics, and having looked around,i in fact did see that, and a lot on ebay/piston heads etc in last couple of weeks of searching

the arch bit there looks a bit better but still doesnt look mint ??? and you cant see underneath or the interior properly ? this one interior is leather and really really nice, and all the mod cons, externaly theres nothing in it ? and engine bays look the same condition , so i sort of dont see how that one can be deemed better condition, i could travel all the way to essex get underneath that n chassis be a lot worse and have issues or other rust issues ?

Philips screwdriver. If the owner doesn't like the idea of you removing it (there will be a reason for this) then smile and walk away.

thats it though, the arches look better than the 1 ur thinking about buying which means cills and A and B post better condition. i would stay clear of it mate, you can see the rust at the bottom of the arch which means cills are fooked

It's a landrover "Mod cons" = more things to break = more money to spend fixing it..

a discovery body if polished will always stay looking really gooood. tis because there made of ally. its the gremlins that lie in the sills etc and boot floor, if you can afford it i would spend some more and get a disco2 as rust issues are nowhere near as bad, my sills are like new and its 10 year old now. ok engine is more expensive to fix sometimes and parts are usually more expensive but they will easily outlive the life of the d1

i removed air suspension on mine and fitted coils cost me £90 for bearmach springs and fixings. got 1 without air con/ climate control etc. less gadgets the better i say. disco2's just seem better built than disco1's/ im not saying it will never rust

would they definatly be f**ked ??? i really shatting myself now, need this properly checked out before handing the £££ over, but...ive looked at loads that have been listed and sold, that have had the rear arches replaced, people ive spoke to have said its a common fault and its no big deal

how can i check the cills etc ?

but..i really appriciate the help here lads, as it could save me buying a lemon, i wont buy it if im not sure shes worth buying and a goodun

if you can see rust at bottom of the A and B posts just before the plastic trim, then a good chance there fooked pal

to be honest lads..2k is my absoloute limit here, i originaly had a 1500 budget, but ahd to strech that, cant go no more than 2k and have 2 other cars

the jap import one.. ok thats £1800 , steel wheels (i know can be replaced as can the interior) brown crappy interior, it might not have the rust issue..although the chassis looked the same and the chassis on that didnt look any better/much better , and laquer issues on bonnet and roof , and none of the mod cons

this is a winter comfort thing for me, for ice and snow, bit of a weekend toy aswell...so mod cons and comfort are on the tick list ,thats why im buying it, not for an off road or real work horse where i need no mod cons and an a to b 4x4

Rot isn't a problem if you can weld (or know someone who can weld??) but it is a great way of knocking 20-30% off the asking price. :D
