Ok..so driving down the m6, the landy starts to judder. Next i know im oit of control with no feckin wheel..manage to stop in the hard shoulder...but no sign of the wheel..almost ripped my wing off though. No idea what happened...could the nuts have loosened themselves over time or do you reckon some bastard has been tampering!!!

Well i would have thought that if the wheel nuts were working loose you would have felt it long before it came off, was the hub that the wheel bolts to still attached ?

It was the nearside front. Had a bit of what i thought was speed wobble just before it happened but thats it..id done over 100 mile jist before that

Can't even begin to imagine how scary that must be

So little warning, thank fok you're still in one piece:hug:

Ouch - sounds brown pants time.

Could have been worse - the wheel could have overtaken you first :p

near side wheels tend to loosen nuts due to the direction of rotation.... lots of commercials have left hand threads on nearside ... twin wheel ford transits were one example

as above if not properly tightened or checked near side can undo through rotation been the same direction as nut undoes front most likely as action of braking amplifies effect

But to lose ALL the nuts without getting any horrible wheel wobble warning until the last minute.......is that remotely possible?

it happened to me didnt know anything about it till wheel shot of in front of me ,i dare say there were telling signs but not enough to make you think of stopping

it put a large flat on brake disc but caused no other damage ,i was able to refit wheel and drive home with 1 nut from the other wheels after a fair walk to fetch wheel ,it was lucky not to be worse kids couldnt wait to get to school to tell their tale

i had the same last year on the black country route, doing 50 sudden horrendous death wobble like trying to rip steering wheel out of my hands, limped off at next island and one loose nut left on nearside and the rest gone. makes you bloody paranoid about it after.

I was quite calm at first..then when the rac guy said what could have happened considering i was surrounded by trucks...it hit me what had happened lol. They couldnt find my wheel..but apparently there were later reports of a wheel between j16 and j17 on the m6 lol. Too late by then i was already half way home on a recovery truck. Lol
