Service kit, belts, tools, oils and gear laid out I had big plans today for the disco...

And so... sump plug seized to buggery, viscous fan bolt the same... any hints I’m open to advice as really today I only changed the air filter, lubed the hinges and topped up the oil, after jacking her up in the air and punching myself in the nose whilst slipping on the fan spanner and swearing...

And my fuel can is empty so I can’t do the fuel filter either aaaaaaaah

Mrs bravonovember tells me to leave it, it’s just not the day for it and becons me in with a bottle of wine.

Suppose worse days have happened, plus the free booze.

On the plus side, driving the truck down to Tesco earlier, damn you landy drivers are a friendly lot, I’ve never been waved at so much by other bods in Landys.
 
Sounds like a typical landy day! My sump bolt was seized and chewed by p.o I ended up swapping the sump LMAO

What you using on the viscous fan? I used a normal fan spanner and a big feckin hammer. Got any penetrating spray?

Brute force on the sump plug really but danger is the thread will strip :confused: is the plug rounded at all? If it's in good shape try a 6 sided socket and a medium breaker bar. 12 point sockets tend to round the head off

Yeah, I’ve got a big ol breaker bar on order for the sump plug, the bolt itself looks fine and it isn’t just spinning in the sump so it might be ok?

The prob with the fan is I’ve got nothin to stop the pulley spinning. I’ve tried Jerry rigging it with a spanner but looks like I may have to buy the eight quid tool off eBay, feck that’s like eight bottles of the wine I drink right there...

The VF tool does make life easier, or make your own.

Get your fan spanner seated nice and give it a good whack with a lump hammer to the LEFT :D
 
For fan I maded a spanner for it out of a slightly smaller old spanner I had, just ground it out with angle grinder, I normally get someone to push or pull belt against pulley to stop it turning and hit spanner to break loose fan, you can take one of the pulley bolt out so you can get normal 36mm spanner on it if that helps

That’s a good idea in the meantime whilst I wait for the tool to be delivered.
When the fan is off that is gonna get a whole load of anti seize, I don’t want to be in this predicament out in the cuds one rainy day. :confused:
 
Well it was the day for it yesterday, sucked the oil out with an extractor and done the filters. It’ll do until I can get under with the breaker bar and a better socket. The bolts on the rotor housing tho, oh my, one of those had just about lost it’s thread at some point in its life and is now happily spinning freely, the other seems ok lol. I’ll get an m5, nut and spring washer in there tomorrow as I’m not too happy running it on just one bolt,
Eeeeeeek cue visions of massive leak and engine fires lol.
