Hi all,

In terms of security for my 110, 200Tdi, 1992, I currently have:

  1. Immobiliser starter cut-off, complete with red LED, fitted for £14 by my local mechanics. I'm not happy with it because they've placed the large cut-off switch right next to the LED (all positioned like one happy family above the lighter and rear washer controls.) When I pointed this out my mechanic said "put a rag over the switch then." He's a nice guy, but I do despair sometimes.
  2. Disklok attached to steering wheel.
  3. Reclaimed car clamp around rear wheel - should prevent/slow down towing/dragging.
  4. Bad smell - origin unknown.
The current immobiliser is too obvious, so I dreamt (perhaps stupidly) of splicing in a waterproof, push button cut-off to the live feed under the vehicle, right after the thick red wire leaves the battery box.

A few queries regarding this:

  1. Is it possible to have a live cut-off button or would I need to do something with the negative as well?
  2. What type of switch would I need?
  3. Can anyone point me to a switch online?
  4. Is this a good idea? I'm not concerned about whether someone finds it or not, or that I'll have to kneel on the floor each time I want to immobilise the vehicle, I'm only concerned about whether this approach is achievable, technically speaking, and without having any negative effects on the electrics.
  5. Are all babies made in Landy's?
Here's a crude diagram I put together that demonstrates what I'm envisioning:

Thanks for taking the time to read through this.

the only prolem is that they just use jump pack ,wire on pump and starter all yours bypassed and you dont need to lift bonnet ,physical locking like clamp is more useful

Yeah, just wanted to add a major cut-off just in case I can't be bothered to fix the clamp sometimes.

one termial to earth other to switch with live feed simple, was a good idea by mr chunky

What type of switch? Any chance of a link?

So, one lead going to chassis earth (what size wire?), the other lead going a switch that then goes straight to the positive on the battery. Have I understood that right?

I have one that has a fused bypass to keep small electrical stuff running but as soon as you try cranking it tbe fuse blows. Makes it look like something has blown!

It's easier to find a car in the surrounding area than somewhere across the country...
The closer to the lift pump you fit it the shorter the distance it can go. Wouldn't the vacuum created by the lift pump also tend to reduce the available useful fuel amount and travel distance too?

think its a good idea for that reason ,

I have one with those round keys which is very well hidden. Literally 5mins to fit. Thing is...with it they would probably try turning over a few times and mine ain't quiet starting. All delays and makes people aware
