Morning all,

Fitted a rear ladder to the 90, in preparation for the roof rack arriving tomorrow.

It slightly obstructs the number plate, do you think I will get pulled for it?

Went through it's m.o.t the day before I fitted it so don't have to worry about that for a while :p

Cheers

A pernickity copper may not be happy with it. Don't they make roof ladders with part of it extended outwards so that it goes around the reg plate rather than through it?

Number plate should be clearly visible so yes, its illegal but you would have to have found the biggest arsehole of a copper to pull you on it. May get mentioned MOT time though...

Hmmmmm, I might buy one of those registration stickers and put it along the top above the door.. That should suffice?

On the basis that you're going to also be driving through France, Spain and then Morocco... i'd go with making sure it's nice a visable... unless you're very good at talking to police in French / Spanish?

The police would look at it to see if it could be clearly read by a roadside camera without any of the letters/ numbers being obstructed by the ladder, towbar or anything else.

It meant, on the Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7, I had a removable towbar fitted as a fixed one blocked the number plate which was low down in the centre.

True true! I am not good at dealing with police, nor speaking French or Spanish :p

I will get a second number plate and stick it above the door I think..

:hijacked:Total random thread hijack and feck all to do with question in hand, but are they Cooper STTs? If so, are they as good on/off road as people say they are, as it looks like I'm getting a set next week. :D

End of :hijacked:

I had one of those ladders on mine and it made the EUM of my reg look like BUM.
When the police stopped me because they were bored late at night I heard them give my reg over their radio as BUM and then correct it to EUM. Never said a word about it though.

They are! Lovely looking things, they perform very well on road but don't know about offroad yet, hopefully going to devils pit Sunday to find out ;)

That sounds promising, I will probably get a sticker numberplate to go above the door anyway and then see how I go.

Even if I get pulled they aren't going to do me for anything anyway I take it, just have a moan up and tell me to sort it out?
