I recently bought a '94 Discovery 300TDi in a private sale and 6 weeks down the line the Injector Pump needs replacing as it's leaking deisel. :(

I went to a small local 4x4 garage this morning and was given the price of between £450 and £500 for the new pump, removal of old pump and fitting of new pump. They have one sitting in the garage recently removed from a write off that had only recently been fitted to previous vehicle.

Is this a good price?

Having just spent £1500 on the Disco I'm not keen on losing any more money on it!

Depends entirely WHY the pump is leaking.

I suggest you DO NOT spend this money, because chances are the fix is FREE, or at worst a few pennies for a gasket or some tiny O-rings, or a few pounds for a new solenoid stopper.

FIRST find out WHERE it's leaking.

There must be a LandyZoner near enough you who can spot it if you can't. ASK!!!

Excellent idea Charles, are there any LandyZoners in South Wiltshire or West Hampshire who'd be willing to have a nose in my bonnet sometime soonish?

just clean it and ave a drive round then check it again to see where it's leaking from, it's not rocket science

Or take a close up picture where it leaks. A photo like this one (click on it):

This one doesn't leak, it's the pump on my disco seen from the engine side.

Bloody hell what did it see to make it do that??? and on yer Honeymoon as well. :D :D

I decided to attempt to take a couple of pics of the diesal pump even though camera is fu...cracked and I was a touch suprised it kinda worked!

I took the pic looking in from the drivers side and have scribbled on the direction of the leak. I didn't notice where the diesal was coming from but I'm thinking there can't be many places that would cause the diesal to leak where I have indicated.

Hoping this will save me a large portion of the £500 I've currently been quoted to fix it....

Sorry to push this back to the top but does anybody have any idea what could be causing this leak?

Sorry but this picture doesn't help much. That's why I gave you a sample for. I can understand your camera is busted but we need a better picture and a closer view.
Or I can try dig up some pictures for you to edit and pinpoint the leak. If you're still interested...

Thanks alot for the offer but I got talking to a Disco owning friend who has recommeneded a local garage and I'll be contacting them on Monday. I was told they should be able to get it all sorted on site as they carry a large number of Disco spares and a very well priced.
Thanks,

I contacted other garage I'd been recommended and they have quoted me a much better price.

Replacement diesal pump, replacement fuel filter, replacement cam belt, replacement tyre as recently suffered a side wall puincture all fitted £250.

They get 'Dave' in a couple of weeks time.
