I have a 2000 D2 Diesel and she wont start. I left her sitting outside the parents while I travelled for a few months. They were surposed to roll the wheels once a week. After a couple of weeks the mother goes to open the Discovery and the remote wont work, she uses the key and opens the door...the alarm goes off. She puts the key in the ignition and starts it which silences the alarm......drive around the block and parks it. The next time she goes to start it it turns over but doesn't start. Now Im back from my travels and trying to get her up and running again. Battery had died and so has been fully recharged (6 months old) Both remote key fobs are now locking and unlocking fine. Both are made by Valeo. There is a silver tab on one key with a 4 digit code, is this the key code or the Disco unlock code?
Will it be immobilized if I have both remotes locking and unlocking perfectly? I tried the code on the tab to disarm immobilizer but I get a single beep indicating the wrong code. Any help appreciated!!!

The silver tab with the key is the profile number, the engine immobilision is passive so there's nothing to do, it is set if the red LED is flashing. Remobilising is by unlocking with the fob or placing the key in or near the ignition switch.
All the info on your security system is in the owners handbook.

I'm a discovery owner/enthusiast who thought he was joining a friendly forum. I didn't realize I need to give details of shoe size, hobbies, middle name and bad habits!?! I was just looking for a little friendly advice. So if there's no flashing light on the dash.....then the immobilizer isn't on? The silver tab is the profile to the key or the EKA door code? If I had my owners hand book with the EKA code in it then I wouldn't be asking whether the silver tab was it......would I!

Why are you still asking questions when you have been told? read my previous post again.

I would have thought that for an owner that appears to me hasn't a clue on basics of his vehicle security system a handbook would be a must, but then it would be of little use as it doesn't have a EKA code in it, that would be on the security card for vehicle which no doubt you don't have either.

Get a handbook and make the effort to understand some of the workings of your vehicle yourself, just search and you will find a copy on the www.

I do have the handbook but not the card with the EKA code in it. (Disco purchased second hand) I understand everything that it says in the handbook about the security system. What it doesn't tell you is the things I've asked. The silver tab code...is it the key code or the immobilizer security code. No flashing red light when the ignition is turned...immobilizer on or off.

Surely joining this "friendly" forum is an effort to get advice and understand the workings of the vehicle?

Maybe the weather's having an effect on everyone.

The silver tab on one of the keys is the key profile, required if you need to order another key.

The EKA (Emergency Key Access) code is particular to one vehicle and is found on the security information card which should be passed on from owner to owner with the vehicle. You won't find it in the user's handbook, all you'll find there is how to use the EKA.

You can find the EKA if you happen to have a Nanocom Evolution handy, or you can contact your local Land Rover main dealer. You'll have to provide proof of identity and proof of ownership of the vehicle; the V5 form.

I would suggest you try to recover the lost security card from the previous owner, it has other useful information on it too, such as the radio security code.

Thanks Brian. Good advice, and I'll certainly follow it. My only question now is, has my immobilizer set or is it another issue. The Discovery turns over but just doesn't start. The remote key fobs lock and unlock perfectly. When the key turns the ignition no lights flashing on the dash. But, she wont start. Almost as if she's out of diesel. There is plenty of diesel in her, and I hear the fuel pump filling when I turn the ignition. (which is good) I surpose the first check would be to see if diesel is reaching the engine. Any idea where to start looking under the bonnet?

The warning lights on the dashboard should all come on when you turn the ignition key on, then most of them should go out leaving the glowplug warning to go out with the temperature of the cylinders and then the seatbelt light leaving just the oil pressure, alternator and handbrake lights on.

The flashing red LED mentioned earlier is just below the speedometer. When it flashes quickly the immobiliser is setting and should then settle to once or twice a second. Then the immobiliser is set.

If things aren't working as they should it's probably one of the control units, the ECU or the BCU, which I think contains the immobiliser needs resetting. Search the site for further information on the subject.

One more piece of good advice; get yourself over to the "Introduce Yourself" section of the forum. You're more likely to get a reasonable response in future.

Had you spent even a few minutes looking at the site it may have saved you time and money, an intro lets people know where you are and who knows somone with a fault code reader (like me) may be just around the corner

Hi there and welcome. As yours is a DII TD5 you don't have a 'spider' - that only applies to the DI TDi 300.

The immobiliser function is operated by one of the ECU's - the BCU irc

So just to summarise, you can unlock the car with the fob, the engine turns over when you try to start it, but it doesn't start - is that correct?

If so, the first thing I would be doing is to check that the in-tank fuel pump is working?Turn key to pos II and listen at drivers side rear wheelarch for pump working.

I take it there are no warning lights showing or blown fuses???
