Spreading Joy & Harmony
Enough is enough!!!!!!
1984 90 with a disco 200tdi engine, defender lt77 gb and the disco transfer box.
Now I know Land Rovers aren't built for speed but it'd be nice to know why I bothered doing the conversion.
I am getting a top speed of 60mph...max 65 on a very long straight on a good day. Normal cruising speed 50mph.
Average fuel consumption is 25mpg..I only do straight 40 mile runs at 50mph so expect better.
Now I vaguely remember 6 months ago when the conversion was done that it would sit at 65mph and once, just to see what she had, I did 80mph.
I have a new lift pump ready to go on but after fitting a new battery my starting issues were cured, starts 1st time every time even in minus 20 degrees.
There is NO distinct turbo whistle..if I really strain my ears over the engine noise, I reckon I can faintly hear a whistle in 2nd and 4th just as its reaching max revs in those gears. In 5th there is no torque, I often avoid using 5th as it sits better in 4th at 55mph.
Now, I can take it down to a local garage, the only one with any experience of land rover turbos, for a pressure test and general look over. However at £80 an hour plus vat I want to be sure he doesn't rip me off.
So to the questions.
How long roughly should it take to test a turbo at the garage?
Could it all just be down to a crap lift pump?
Any other thoughts?
Thanks in advance....I'ts really getting on my tits now..it sounds and performs just like the N/A I replaced.
