Hi all,

Some of you might of seen this on my series 2 thread.

I bought this mainly for the engine but looking at fitting a 300tdi to my series is more work than i want to do and its a loooong way off that yet.

this disco is a Mot failure, it failed on these things - is this worth repairing?
Im in two minds to sell it as it sits and let someone else deal with it, or break it for parts.

sounds like its quite rusty as most are including mine !

would be worth saving but if i were you id let someone else save it !

As far as breaking that needs alot of work and time to get shot of parts and you will never sell it all ,depends how much you have in it realy as its not worth much as it stands so if you have the space and time to break it and take all the hassle that goes with it that would be the best financial option

I think most Discos are in that state at some point! Mine was when I got it. It sounds like a lot of those things are sills and rear arches, though the bulkhead could be a bit of a bugger!

Post up some pics.

Im in Taunton - whereabouts did you get the test done?

Save it. If you sell it it'll end up in a scrap yard or someone else will just break it. the fact that you've asked for our opinion suggests you dont really want to break it. :)

I had a 50th Anniversary, very well spec'd motor. Where are the original wheels?
I would try and keep it going as long as possible and use it as a project

This was mine, on the beach in Donegal

and at home

This is what im thinking let someone who has more intersest in it do the work and enjoy it!

What would you say its worth as it sits?

I didnt get the MOT done, i looked it up online, i bought it off someone i kind of know. The Land Rover is out at Corfe.

Iv got some pics just uploading them, need to get some of the bulkhead i did notice there was a hole in there!

No i don't really want to break it seems to good to break up bar the welding, I just don't know if i can be bothered with it as i dont enjoy welding.

Post some pics of some of the offending parts. I'd be tempted if I was closer.

Will be up soon!

It does seem well spec'd inside and seems nice to drive even though iv only driven it round a horse area with a drag on the back!

No idea on the orignal wheels, i think the wheels on it are range rover wheels?

Im not really in a rush to do out with it, its getting some use at the farm where its parked up!

price of engine £400 or scrap ,which is a shame id restore them all if i could

Its a funny old world, but like you I try to save some motors, having the thought of crushing them seems insane, but...
but now age stops me from being agile...

then there is the banger camp, where nothing is not too good to race..
seriously good motors stripped out and airbrushed just to go out like a gladiator infront of a crowd to go in for a "kill"

the most serious are buying in from abroad now - just crazy...

but then i look at the rust on the 500 edition and think - if thats what you can see.......

Yup you could spend 4 figures welding up a disco if you go to a garage. A mobile specialist may be cheaper and cheaper still is DIY. Not a quick job though and ill still cost you £ in materials. Buying pre-made panels is best comproise between cost and time.

Expect there to be lots of rust under the sill covers, boot carpet and rear bumper. If mine was that bad I would have scrapped it TBH or sold it on as is. Key is just to take your time looking for one and don't buy one this time of year! People want stupid money with the risk of snow!

Fair enough, If anyone is interested in buying it drop me a message.

I could weld it up my self its just wheater i want to! seem to be so busy with stuff atm and iv got the series 2 project on the go as well!

the only reason i bought it was because it was cheap and i fancied a tdi engine in my series 2 but means chaning the engine mounts and i dont really want to get in to all of that!

I brought one back from the brink of beyond economical repair, looked similar to yours in termsofrot too

www.lrocb.be - Toon onderwerp - Dieseldogs bush workshop/helping hand.

All the work is doable but takes time, I spent less than £80 on materials and £48 on the new exhaust, but it took a ton of time, I only work 3hrs a night on any project and maax 8hrs on a single day if it's on my day off.

The Disco you have is easy enough if you have the time.

If you were closer, I would have had it but not worth trying to get it half way across the country:(

Doesnt look that bad but there will defo be more rust hiding !

Has to be worth £4-500 especialy at this time of year and its a late 300 so worth saving but id still let someone else save it !

Don't let your heart rule your head, its a piece of ****
If it were a 50th defender it would be worth the hassle

Who let the tratter driver in ere?

Why would a 50th Deafener be worth saving more than a 50th Discovery? Think you miss the point, a 50th is a 50th, a Discovery is far better than a Deafner :p
