Ive also a 1.8 es and am very happy with it yes I did have teething probs like had it on the back of an AA transporter after 5 days of owning it well after alot of profanity and and a few quid later and a K series engine fanatic to rebuild her... im loving it ,,, have pics on my profile added roof bars , side steps and light grilles to finish it off but think a nice trip to europe or further would round it off ...

I'm impressed- got an S reg 1.8 with 112K on the clock for a courtesy car for a week at the moment (TD5 Disco having gear box rebuilt) and seeing as it probably only worth £1500 and has had the head gasket done, has new tyres, has body mouldings and light grills I think its a nice little run around. Wife dropped the kids off at nursery this morning and was hoping she'd like it so I'd buy it for her, but she's hard core- hated it 'stupid little thing' and she can't wait to get the Disco back! ah well, probably saved me a fortune in repairs!

Only had mine about 5 weeks but, yeah i like it. I'm just paranold at the moment about things I keep reading. Got it in my head at the moment that there's somat wrong with me vcu when reversing, lol:doh:
Well its happened, the head gasket went, a week last saturday, its in me local garage being done as I wright, get it back next week I hope, lol.

but then I could be wrong. I suggest yu have a quick search on here.

You don't need the rail,

I was probably one of the first DIY'ers to fix hgf using the MLS gasket July 06.
Gasket and rail were only released in Mar 06

No rail, no Pressure Relief Thermostat, still going strong after 30k miles ;)
I have drilled the stat ring when fitting a new standard stat, old one opened at 95 oC, should have been 88 oC

I have said this many times, my K-series kept charging on for many weeks as a daily runner with hgf, even passing it's MOT emissions despite a lumpy idle.

Mine never overheated.

With the blown rad hose on yours, there was a risk of overheating, make sure the garage checks the head and liners heights.
