Does a IRD unit from a 2001 1.8 petrol freelander fit a 2004 V6 model?

Going to be hard to get the V6 version. The V6 IRD has a different ratio and larger bearings. So although the 1.8 will fit, it might not last long and will allow the engine to spin faster for a given road speed. This will affect the Mpg quite markedly.
Just having a thought: the 1.8K version uses a PG1 box with an S4 gearset. You might be able to claw back some of that gearing disadvantage by using a 3.938:1 final drive ratio in place of the 4.200:1 - but I don't know which gear set the KV6 uses?
