The V6 IRD has a different ratio and larger bearings. So although the 1.8 will fit, it might not last long and will allow the engine to spin faster for a given road speed. This will affect the Mpg quite markedly.

Going to be hard to get the V6 version.
New and recons that are available are 4 pot only.
Is it a big difference in ratio's. I remember a 4 pot one being put in a V6 years ago, but I can't remember the outcome.

It's a good few % difference in ratio. Hippo has a thread on it somewhere on the forum. I'd try to find or repair the V6 IRD as anything that reduces it's Mpg isn't needed. The V6 does sub 20 Mpg in the real world, so a 1.8 IRD will only drop that further.

As long as it fits, it means that i could fit the 1.8 IRD giving me time to find/repair a V6 unit, another project vehicle to add to my collection i fear.

Just having a thought: the 1.8K version uses a PG1 box with an S4 gearset. You might be able to claw back some of that gearing disadvantage by using a 3.938:1 final drive ratio in place of the 4.200:1 - but I don't know which gear set the KV6 uses?

KV6 used the Jatco auto box, which is completely different to the PG1.;)
