My 200tdi is a 12l block (disco) and defender spec ancillaries - looks just like a defender 200tdi

If yours is working leave alone IMO or just swap the ancillaries over as already mentioned if you want the stock look
 
Wasn't the difference in power between the disco and defender 200tdi just down the the fuel injector pump?
 
OK here is my twopenneth! Just got my '87 MOD back from having an 11L fitted (Thur.), while it does look right and goes well it rattles like crazy at tickover, hopefully fitting some S3 diesel rubbers will help. I paid 1k for my set up though a very good gearbox came with it. I also got 200 pound for my NA and as I had nowhere to keep it this was OK. I do believe the correct looking setup with shroud, turbo etc looks cool, though each to his own.
 
depends on the state of the rest of the truck , a defender 200 tdi engined 90 is worth more than 750 compared to a disco 200 bodge,which while perfectly useable it is

What's rattling exactly?
 
It's like a resonance at tickover, higher revs it's OK. I recon it's the new blue box mountings. Mechanically it's fine.
 
Genuine os defender mounting are used on the tdi to series conversions to calm it all down a bit.
Inj pump timing makes a massive difference to noise.
Valve clearances have to be a long way out to be noticeable, the lash caps can break taking the clearances to nearly 3mm so well worth checking.
