My lovely landy developed a confusing habit. Every now and then he just refuses to start. He's fine starting from cold in the morning and if i turn off engine for short periods eg. a filling station, but if I stop him for an hour or so eg. supermarket shopping, he just doesn't start. The battery is charging and the electrics all work, even when engine wont turn over, I can hear fuel pump working etc just nothing on that final bit of key-turn. I am talking about a 2.5 turbo diesel engine. Any advice gratefully recieved. Oh yeah, the man from the AA checked and made good the ignition wiring on one of my increasingly occuring supermarket carpark adventures. What could it be??????

Hi Dippycow------Check push on wire to starter selonoid and clean. Fuel pump to all diesels is mechanical and only works when engine is turning.--BB

My engine has replacement electric fuel pump that starts pumping as soon as ignition is turned but will try out your suggestion anyway. Thanks
