can anyone help, there doesnt seem to be anything on a search with a similar problem. Havent had my p38 for that long and noticed that no interior lights work when you open the doors, the front spot lights and rear passenger lights work when switched on manually. I noticed the front main interior light doesnt come on at all and if you try switching it on the button doesnt click. The boot light also is not working! Also the indicators dont flash if you arm or disarm the alarm(dont know if they're suppose to!) Starting to p*ss me off when trying to find something in the dark! Any help would be a great help!

yeah checked all the bulbs and fuses, someone has told me that you are able to change these settings when its plugged in to diagnosics?

you can but i wouldnt think anyone has! it may be worth having a testbook session but its not cheap!

hi, i had this the other day all interior lights plus boot light not working,i found out that if you press the middle button on the front interior light cluster for three seconds there should be a short bleep and message on dash saying interior light on.hope it works for you!!!!

Yep chas33 is right, its some kind of synchronisation thats needed. This happend to me when my + terminal worked loose from the battery.

yeah i heard something about this, i tried it and now puddle lights come on but still no interior lights!!!!

tommo138 I have exactly the same problem with my range rover. Interior lights are switched on as shown on the info display, door switches are working, all bulbs are ok, all fuses ok and puddle lights work but no interior lights. All the bulbs have a live feed they are just missing the switched negative.

Just an update Ive just fixed the fault. All I did was disconnect the battery for 30 seconds and reconnected it and everything works as it should. Disconnecting the battery did set off the alarm though so be prepared for the noise. Just be carefull to make sure the car is unlocked, alarm is not armed and you have the radio code and key access code just incase.

thanks for that millermilla was starting to think along those lines of trying to reset the system with disconnecting the battery.

Hi folks,

Son just had same problem after changing interior bulb. Held centre front button in for about 3 seconds and problem gone.
Many thanks

I have just bought a very early P38 M reg 1995. Interior light stays on, have tried all thoughts have now removed bulb as a temporary fix.

Has anyone had this fault

mine just suddenly has started to do this. No indicators flash on unlock or lock, no interior lights coming on either.
Went out to just now and I can still hear a feint beep every few seconds from the dashboard. If I hold down the middle button on the dome light console for 3 seconds i can toggle between inter lights on or off.
when I select, off ,the beeping stops. I pressed the middle button again and still no lights???? really confused.

how do I fix this?

Just to update this thread.....
So if you hear a feint beep from the dash- it means the interior lights have been set via the light dome (middle button) as ON. If you set this to OFF then the beeping stops, but you still have no interior lights functioning.
Disconnecting the battery for a short while will fix the interior lights problem and no more beeping!

1/28/2012 10:04 Just had the same issue. I completed the following,
A) Discocennected the battery
B) Cleaned terminals
C) Checked bulbs in the dome light
D) Cycle the switch to turn interior lights off and on in the interior
E) Checked all the fuses
F) Rest it by reattaching the battery.
Didn't Work

My Fix was the following:

I inserted the Key into the drivers door access and rotated it back and forth while spraying a lubricant in the slot. (Not the best to use silicon for locks but i did to improve the contact). The light lit after a few times of pushing the key in and out while applying spray lubricant.

I am sure it was just a dirty contact is my resolve. Thank you for everyones inputs on this site. I own two P38 4.6's and the electrics are fun to troubleshoot as they get older!

I had no interior lights after my p38 was returned from my sister after a months loan. Held the switch on the main light until a beep and my interior lights are now working as they should. Thank you for the info everyone.

Where are the door switches for the lights? Are they within the door internals?

Yep, built into the lock mechanism

From what I understand of the door mech lubing the lock will only benefit the use of the key and nothing else......?
