Hi,

I have a DSE and have been offered an uprated intercooler to replace my leaking one. Issue i can see is the oil cooler will not let the new cooler fit in place. I understand the the JE Fearne ones used to relocate the oil cooler, but i can find no information or instructions.

So, does anyone have a larger than standard intercooler fitted and if so what did you have to do to fit it in place.

Thanks as ever for the informations.

You will have to move the engine oil cooler down. Improvise. I have never seen a leaking intercooler.

I have alot of oil residue in and around the front of the intercooler on the bottom left hand side when looking from the front of the vehicle. The hoses are clean around there fitment, so i can only assume its coming out from around that area..

You would loose power if its leaking.

Yep i understand that, I fitted a boost gauge when it felt like something was a miss and have noticed a decline in boost pressure and generally the car feels more sluggish. If that is possible..

Sounds right!
The hole will only get bigger, it may only be a pin prick but at 1bar it will loose pressure.

If you had a hole in the intercooler big enough to cause power lost you would hear it believe me. There would not just be a bit of oil.

Then in your opinion, what are the other issues??

As im flummuxed to be honest...

Symptoms are as stated: oil on front of cooler, boost pressure seems low, car doesnt pull as well as it did.

Ive checked the hoses and they all seem fine, replaced all the hose jubilee clips when i checked them.

Car doesnt smoke etc.. So im lost.

What is the boost pressure?

The needle will bounce between 10 and 12 psi. This is with a warm engine and drive train etc.

Did the run along a steady incline from a set of lights under hard accleration. Myself and 1 passenger. car unladen.

How much are you expecting from a system that runs at one bar max? If you think you have a leaking intercooler take it off clean it out and repair it. Or fit the bigger one. Which won't make a lot of difference by the way.

If it is an Allisport intercooler, it fits underneath the engine oil cooler. I think JFearne used them.

Just unbolt it and lift it out of the way. No need to disconnect the hoses. The intercooler drops right down and rests on the chassis rails. The oil cooler slots back in on top. You will need some home made brackets to keep it in place.

Bigger intercooler is a waste of time IMO unless to plan to knacker your gearbox by re-mapping. 12psi is about right, it can be adjusted.
Just fix your intercooler.

I have a bigger one and wouldn't go back. But i guess that you will need a remap to better use the cooler air from the bigger intercooler. Like Dave mine sits below the oil cooler.

You won't notice anything from the bigger intercooler until it's 30 degrees in the middle of summer. A P38 on EGR takes it's air temp BEFORE the intercooler anyway so the ECU will never know it's got cooler denser air to fuel. Pre EGR slightly different but basically same applies.
