hello, got an electronic ignition, cheap one from brittpart.
Installed according to manual, but engine won’t start.
Did I do something wrong? Hooked up the wrong way?
Put the points back in and fired up straight away
Don’t have a clue...

I guess it’s just rubbish...
I’ll stick to points for now and buy a decent kit later on...

Try putting a very small rubber band under the rotor to raise it

Ok, I’ll try that.
The red cable should be attached to the +-side of the coil, he? Also if the coil is balasted? How can I check if it is balasted?

Yes + to red - to black ,the ballast resistor is a ceramic rectangle shaped thingo on the bulkhead needs to be bypassed

No ballast on my car.
I guess the coil is no good for electronic ignition...only possibility remaining
Gonna buy a new coil.

I can't tell from the photo but there should be a collar that slips over the centre surrounded the rotor arm, have you got that on? If you have one on then the red pick up thing looks to be a bit far away from it. Have you got a spark from the king lead? Has your carbon rod fell out of your dizzy cap?

+1 on that, I can't see the trigger for the pick up in the photo. The red thing detects the trigger going past it, it goes in place of the cam or over it and should pass close (about 10 thou) to the pick up. That then sends a signal to fire the coil.

+1 on that, I can't see the trigger for the pick up in the photo.

You might just see in the photo below a black ring under the rotor arm, reluctor I think it's called; it triggers the module as it spins with the rotor arm.
Also the distance between the module and reluctor ring is critical, too far apart and no signal (as I found out); 1mm or less about a thin film of plastic thick, must not touch though. The module position on the base plate is adjustable via the screws.
