another pic of the CB out , to show the din aperture

haven't wired it all up yet but just wished to show u how I installed it

this CB has one of the smallest depth measurements and thought it ideal for this application

we all get asked question all day long and think it's nice to come back and show the results

the CB is a tti TCB900 and are around £80

dimensions are

170 w x 94 d x 51 h mm

mainly got it for greenlaning etc, well , when I go that is, lol

Good job. All you need now is a K40 !

thks, took me long enough to carefully cut the plastic out so that when the bracket went in it wouldn't show

got some cheap aerials at the moment

want to bend them over and fix the tip to the roof , but know it's suppose to effect the swr reading etc

just don't want the thing tapping on the body , as that would drive me nuts , lol

will get the splitter that I can use the CB aerial for CB and fm radio and the radios reception is terrible

but will only be using it for greenlaning ,

looks nice had to work out what you have moved to get it in there. i take it you don't have a sunroof as no switch.

no mines the 3 door

took out the ashtray and holes that held a couple of switches

used a dremal and carefully cut it out bit by bit

didn't want to see a hole when the din metal aperture went in

measured up a CB first though to make sure one would fit seeing the heater box is at the back and this one fits really nicely

happy to share if someone else wished to do the same

I fancy sticking a small 2m/70cm rig in my freelander but not sure what to do with switches. I don't mind losing the sunroof switch and tailgate window switch.

That still leaves me with 2 front window switches and central locking switch to fit in...

trying to think as urs is a 5 door, can the window and lock switches go into the arm rest as there four for the windows and also another sq blank which im not sure, could it be to turn the rear electric windows off ???

u should have some blanks, ie car seat heaters , cruise control,

what are all the switches u have fitted plse and how many blanks

or put a pic up and will work it out as some of the switches can be moved out of the way due to there long leads behind the dashboard and some can't

happy to help where I can

Thanks, will take some photos later. I know some people have a mount on the dash, but preferred something a bit neater.

found a couple of aerials in the shed , can't even remember who gave them to me

length wise , measured from bottom of spring to tip , it that's how u measure them

1 x 1500 mm long black
1 x 800 mm long , blue

may use them for now, will rub the blue one downs and spray it black

got the spare wheel bracket already fitted

I was the same, bought a second hand centre console, so that if I messed it up didn't matter

measured up the metal din carrier first, marked round the edge, drilled small holes in each corner then used a dremal to cut it out

was very fidley but am really fussy and like things just so

also like cables etc to all be hidden , got to hide the sat nav charging wire behind the dashboard etc and will do the same with the CB wires

use the longer one it will be better as cb is actually 11 mtrs and the 1500mm will suit this better. also I do not know the length of the spring should it be spread out it might be another quarter of a meter.

cheers mate that's what I thought

by bending the aerial and fixing the tip on the roof does it effect the swr reading in any way, sorry asking a daft question

ref the short one, wonder what range i would get with that

also what do u mean the CB is 11 metres plse

thks again

yes it would effect the standing wave ratio unless you fixed it with a none metallic fastener well cb is 27 MHz that is 11 meters if you divide the MHz into 300 you will get the length of 11 meters ideally you should have a aerial 11 meters long but you can not put that onto your car so the bigger antenna you have got the better ,I have been into ham radio since 1967 and did dabble into CB and when it was a good year for cb that is when the solar flux was right and there was a good lift on (that's what they call them ) I worked from Staffordshire to Gozo in Malta on 4 watts now a days they use linear's(burners) but I have never found the need for them.

thks mate

understand fully what ur saying with regards to the longer one

would it hurt for now if I fitted the short one, only reason being i don't have to bend it as it will just go above the roof, wonder if I could get a couple of mile with it as i imagine that would suffice my needs

ie in a convoy or greenlaning etc

looked at the power supply and as a cheat , in the armrest I have the other cig lighter and could easily take power off the back and be able to hide all the wires and won't be seen

know u should really take it from a clean source ie the battery, have got a small 6 x fuse waterproof fuse box that I could easily put under the bonnet and run the wires though the bulkhead

as when I ran my spot light loom I used the hole where the clutch would normally be and put some trunking through for future use, is sealed up at the moment to prevent any engine fumes coming into the car

would only use the back of the cig lighter for ease , but in the same token would want a massive amount of interference if I did that

hi you can now get a twin band with a separated face I have a 4 band one and the base is in my boot and the head unit I attach to the windscreen with one of those phone holders I will take some pictures and put them on here for you
