Sorry to be a pain in the arse with basic questions but I need answers please. I'm planning on doing the egr blanking mod this weekend and probably need to clean the inlet manifold at one point. Now me being a complete thicko when it comes to engine maintenance can someone tell me if this is all I need to clean on this you tube clip at 9.27 minutes . I've done a search and still a little confused as to what I need to do. Thanks gents.....................dennis

once you've fitted the egr blank kit

clean out the inlet manifold, there are some threads ref that

keep the washers and reuse them if they look ok

also clean the map sensor, is at the back left of ur engine, be gentle and will need a torch bit , that has the hole in the bottom of the torx bit

i useto put millars injector cleaner through it

good luck and if u do a search here , there's a step by step guide

while u have the egr out, check the vacuum pipes near the front of the engine, they get holes burnt in them

take ur time and plenty of us to always ask if u get stuck

To remove the inlet manifold you will need a 10mm socket for the top 8 bolts which are captive, an 11mm socket for the bottom nuts x 4 and one bolt, unclip the connection to the MAP sensor on the left hand side of the manifold looking at it from the front of the car, undo the egr circlip joining the egr and the exhaust pipe, remove the egr hose, and the intercooler hose, once you have the manifold off the car remove the MAP sensor from the side of the manifold 10mm bolts clean the MAP with a rag sprayed with some carb cleaner, remove all the rubber seals from the manifold these can be wiped clean and re-used after to have cleaned out the manifold, clean it using oven cleaner sprayed inside and left for at least an hour, jet wash out if you can if not try and take it to the local jet wash place that have sprung up all over Britain I am sure they will clean it out for you for £5.

Refit all rubber seals once dried out, fit clean MAP sensor refit to the car along with your EGR bypass once it is all back together give it a Italian tune up. I have all the photo's of said job I must do an how when I get time

Many thanks for the replies guys I feel confident already. I can fit the egr blanking valve without the hoses attached and still remove the inlet manifold yes? Also stupid question but I've got to ask it. The MAP sensor socket attached to the manifold, I presume you seal it with tape or something before jet washing?
cheers.............................dennis

HI Dennis.

You can see what the manifold can end up like without maintaining it, I change mine every year as part of my service.

Well I done it and it went extremely well until I dropped the 11mm bolt and it fell inside the engine somewhere. I had my hand deep inside the engine and couldn't fine it. Does anyone know where I could get a replacement?
The car is driving a lot nicer after a quick spin up and down the duel carriageway :)
