Hi all am working through my little faults with my td5 and I want to no if you lads or lasses recut the injector seats before installing new injector seals mine have already been done but still takes 3 atempts to start on a morning When cold with a plume off white smoke when it starts also needs some throttle to start
 
All I did was make sure the seats themselves were clean and fitted the new seals and washers.

Did you use genuine seals and washers?

When you say done 3 times, is this all recently? did it improve between the changes?

Sorry I ment it take 3 attempts to get her started every morning, yes it improved and runs on the 3rd time,
 
So, when you had the seals / washers changed did ti improve things? was there any change?

Ok glow plug light is on on the dash when starting I will pull them out and test them where is the relay located in the engine bay or in the car fuse box

Just disconnect all the glow plugs and check the resistance from the glow plug connector to the engine, resistance should be very low like less than 3 ohms. Do this for all the glow plugs

On the Td5 the glow plug indication on the dashboard is no real indication that the glow plugs are working. It only indicates that the ECU has sent the signal to the relay to warm them up. Unlike the tdi which uses a straight timer, with the Td5 the ECU monitors the temperature of the coolant and then operates the relay for a period according to that temperature.

The only way to definitively decide if they are working is to pull them one at a time and connect 12 volts across each one. DO NOT HOLD THEM WHILE YOU DO THIS. IT WILL BURN!

A very low resistance indication with an ohm-meter could mean that a glow plug is working or has gone short circuit.
 
a good one has between 0.5 - 0.9 Ohm depending on brand, also the 12V should be checked if it's present in the lead while the warning is on
