Hi all. Have just removed the nuts from the thread on the injector clamp and noticed on the threaded posts the spline top is sheared off on one side. Do these need to be removed to get injector out or will come out with them still in place? Injector is twisting side to side but need to obviously pull it up.any quick answers would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

By splined top, I think you mean the torx head for locking them?

The injectors lift off over the stud so it can stay.
Bit late, but best done with engine warm and I always put a strip of metal to protect the plastic and spread the load and use a pry bar to lift each one out when clamp has been removed.

Thanks for the quick reply. Engine was hot when I started, this is wher I’m at. Nuts are off clamp and injector twists from side to side.will the clamp just lift out with the injector if I can get something underneath to pry it up?

Yes that is there to allow them to be tightened. I would assume the damaged one is tight!!

So, strip of metal on the black plastic under the injector connector where the fuel line goes, put a pry bar under, don't lift on the thread but close in to injector.

If any don't move up and come free you may have to reinstall, warm engine and try again.

To late for you now but may help others, clean out the port and around it without letting any debris fall into the port hole.

If real stubborn then a slide hammer can be used.

Always use a new copper washer.

A new copper washer should hold on the injector, if not then add a drop of diesel to the washer to hold it in place, then lower it into the clean port.

Injectors can be cleaned and refurbished if you know what you are doing.

What effect were you having to make you remove the injector in the first place?
Rough idle, engine shaking and bad fuel economy. Disconnected each injector in turn and the dodgy one made no difference when disconnected. Have now replaced said injector and cleaned out intake manifold and ports. All I can say is it’s now like driving a different car. First time attempting anything like this and found it quite straight forward with help and advice from the good members on here.
Thanks all…

Glad you've cracked it and welcome to the band of self trained mechanics! They are the best type as the motivation, drive and focus is stronger than 'just doing a job'.

Only nearly had one mishap. Placed new injector into the port then went to make a brew.when I came back out I noticed something on the floor…(copper washer)…it must have fallen off the injector without me noticing Good job I saw it or I would have put everything back together not realising it was missing Now that would have spoiled my dayAnyway, all is good and the old hippo is a pleasure to drive, can’t believe the difference. No more shakkkkkinnnng

Injector grease could have been helpful in sticking the washer to the injector body. Search Ebay or similar for it. The Mercedes brand is possibly Febi Bilstein. I would likely go for the Febi, Mercedes or LiquiMoly brands, if I were buying some.
