Hello!

I'm a new guy from germany. I hope you understand everything I write.

I'm about to drive to someone who's selling parts of his 2004 facelift freelander 1.

I want to facelift my wife's freelander (2003) using the sellers bumpers, headlights and rear lights.

I'd like to know which parts despite of the bumpers and the lights I'll need to get the facelift done.

If I also buy the "iron things" that are situated behind the bumpers: is that all I need to fix the new bumpers at my wife's car?

Are the any further parts I should take from the seller so modify my car? (wires for the lights for instance?)

I allready read that I'll have to do some modifications to fit the new fron (lights amd bumper) to my car. Can these modificatios all be done using a hammer and probably a tool called angle grinder (i hope it's the right translation. In germany it is also called 'flex').

If there is a thread showing how to the 'facelift' has to be done (photos would be great!), please give me a link!

I hope I don't need a welding machine to fit the new bumpers to my car?

Thank you in advance!!

Volker from Berlin - Germany

Hi Volker, loving your user name. ;)

You'll need to take the bumpers and lights. Two headlamps from the front and all 4 lights from the rear.
You'll also need a good length of wiring from all the lights, so you can graft the wiring into your own Freelander. At the front you'll need the chassis extensions "iron things" often call crush cans. You'll probably be able to reuse your existing bumper armature (large cross bar), but it's wise to take it just in case. Take as many fixings as you can too, as you can never have too many spares. ;)

Hey!
Thanks for your reply and the amount of information!

Is there any website that shows exploded drawings of the bumpers?

Next question:
Am I able to transport two bumpers, the head and rear lights AND 4 18" wheels (not just rims) in a 5 door freelander? If so, do I have to be alone in the car or can I go there with a friend sitting next to me?

It'll be a squeeze, as the bumpers are long and deep. The wheels take up a huge amount of space too. You'd be better off doing it in a couple of trips. ;)

Unfortunately it's way too far to go there twice

Can you not use some roof bars for to carry the bumpers on? If you wrap them in blankets for protection, they'll survive the journey just fine. That would then give you the space for the wheels and lights inside the car with the seats folded forward.

---/\--- wot he said.

Or just hire a trailer. $25 for 4 hours from the local Caltex petrol station.

Hello!
Unfortunately I don't have roof bars on my freelander. I'll drive alone, so I guess everything will fit inside the car.

Another question:
I'll drive there tomorrow (sunday) so shops will be closed (to buy tools)

So are there any special tools needed to remove the facelift bumpers, chassis extensions and the bumper armatures?

Is it sufficiant to go there with my 'Projahn 4037' tool set (see google).

Thanks a lot!

The wheels will take up this much room. The rear seats are folded forward in this picture.

So space for the bumpers will be tight, once the wheels are in.

No special tools are needed. Just metric sockets in 1/4 and 3/8 drive sizez, metric spanners and some screwdrivers. I'd take a hammer and a flat screwdriver you can use as a chisel for the rivnuts. ;)

Hey guys! :)

It was a lot of work to uninstall all the parts and to get them all into my Freelander. But in the end, everything got in there and I drove home with "one and a half" Freelanders :)

I just started a new thread at the Freelander-forum here. I'm sorry I haven't found it right from the beginning to create this thread where it belongs.

So if you're interested in, you're welcome to help me in my new thread concerning the wiring of the facelift-headlights :)

Thank you all!!
