Big Sigh. I fitted the RDX relay, it seems it's great for sorting out the trailer light and flashing speed but didn't solve the issue. I took out the telltale bulb on the dash and the indicators stopped completely. It must be as you suggested so I'll have a crack at your fix and let you know what transpires. Thanks again.

If you are not good with a soldering iron use the jaguar diodes. They have a male and female spade connector and are very simple to fit. Literally cut two wires and add crimps. I knew the RDX relay wouldn't work as it cannot sort the issue out baring in mind where it actually fits although with a change in power running through the circuit it could 'accidentally' fix it.

Yeah in my typical fashion any excuse to buy something shiny and ignore my betters!!. I told Bolt on Bits their ad needs changing! The RDX relay does tick though and ,make my trailer lights work so it's a part result. So, shall I put a diode onto each wire for each side indicator?

You mean Jaguar as in the car? Like this one?

Yes a diode is just simply an electrical one way valve! So if you add them to both left and right indicators tell tail wires the signal will pass through the diode to the bulb and on to ground but cannot pass through the diode going to the other indicator because it will be effectively pointing in the wrong direction. It's as simple as that. If you fit the diodes the wrong way the tell tail will not light at all but no damage will occur and you would just have to fit them the right way round.

Right, project on!!! Next question, where are the wires for the indicators!!!! I've taken the light panel off and the Haynes manual is as usual not that penetrable. Tanks again by the way. I take it I can snip the wires, put the diodes into the wire and reconnect?

If I am correct following your instructions, I should end up with a "Y" piece with the two indicator wires with diodes meeting and going into the 20cm wire which then plugs (somehow) into the bulb??

My 300 Tdi had left and right indicators going to the dash if yours does not then you can still sort it by taking wires from the left and right indicator circuits. Just check behind the dash and use a test light to locate them.

Yep I have a 97 300tdi. I'll have to get a test light whatever that is! Where ddi your indicator wires go to? There's a mutil connector left and right of the central lights so I guess the indicators are in there somewhere?

Look at my tutorial in my sig re tools.

This is MY favourite device for electrical testing....... It's VERY simple, no battery to run out and very visual. Yes a multimeter is more flexible but it takes longer to settle, it is harder to see a result etc. Personally I'd advise people to get both.

Just attach the clamp to the handbrake bracket and touch something to find out if it is live.

Here is a link for you lot :)

This is Polevolt's diode page. Look down the list and you will find a similar in line diode but there is also a fuse shaped diode. Just crimp a fuse holder into the wire from the indicator sides and push the diode into the holder. Get it the wrong way and you just need to pull it out and put it in the right one :)

Ah Hah I have almost the same thing, a transparent screw driver that lights up! I'll get this type though. Brilliant learning curve this forum!

1 amp or 2 amps??? These are perfect thanks again!!

Might sound funny but check for water in your relays. I found water in my washer relay kept fusing my indicators and it was after a little driving when the tiny bit of water in the relay sloshed around over the resisters etc.
Occasionally now my left signal flashes really fast but when I fiddle with the loom of wires on the right hand rear side coming through the tub it fixes the problem.

Have you had a look at my tutorial yet?
Guess what? I'm attempting this diode fit and I'm struggling. Here's where I am,
I've located the left and right indicator wires that go into the tell tale. I've loosley attached a diode to one to see what happens. The powerstill goes through, I turn it the other way, nothing goes through.
Can you draw me a diagram please??? Do I need to make an earth go somewhere and use one side of the bulb for both indicators? Interestingly, if I remove the bulb, the indicators work perfectly!
