Pulled onto the M4 this evening in the normal chaos of rain and lorries and noticed that the green light for indicators was flashing on the dashboard. Thought indicator hadn't cancelled when I pulled off top of slip road, but pushing switch stem up or down didn't cancel the light. It didn't take long to work out from other driver's flashing headlights and the reflections in the motorway signs that all my indicators were flashing, just as if I had my hazard lights on.
Pulled off at next junction and found a side street. Turned everything off, engine and all lights, but indicators and the warning light on the dash continued to flash. Pushing hazard button on and off had no effect (other than to put the flashing red light on the dash on when the button was pushed in) and pressing the key-fob buttons didn't do anything. Couldn't think of anything else that would link to the indicators.
Decided to move to safer spot before lifting the bonnet, to start pulling fuses, or to phone the AA. Started the engine and the indicators and their warning light all went off. Since then the vehicle and the indicators have worked as normal.
Any suggestions as to what caused this fault? Should I be worried?
Thanks
