hi guys my p38 diesel auto pulls like a train but i want to get a tad more power a friend on mine said open the turbo up a bit what is the best/ easiest way to this with out going to far and blow my engine up any help please
 
Chip and put money aside for a new Gearbox....

The ZF4HP22 on the diesels is only just man enough for the M51 standard output, anymore and it starts to wear itself out - this is mainly due to a lack or reduced amount of torque reduction from the engine during gear changes because of the performance chip....
 
A PSI Power box is the easiest as it just plugs into the harness to the FIP and can be removed if necessary for the MOT.
Whatever you do, it will eat your gearbox unless you upgrade that too. Look at Ashcroft Transmissions for upgrades.
 
Assuming you have a good solid engine and box to start with, you have a few options available to you depending on finance.

Uprated intercooler and silicone hoses will give a healthy boost with a good chip.
With regard to the turbo, depends on knowledge and bravery.
If you want to play with boost, first, get a boost gauge and exhaust gas temp gauge.
Next you can either use the adjuster built into the wastegate actuator, or a boodt controller. Bare in mind though that the map sensor is limited to 18psi, map sensors have been changed by jeremy fearne but I have no idea what type was used.

From net research, if adjusting the actuator rod, each turn of it roughly equates to 0.1bar+/-.

From there you can uprate injectors and so on, bjt really. What's the point.

Good luck. But to be honest, trade the beast in for a v8.

I had my Disco TD5 re tuned with the autologic system at my local landy independant. It gave about a 40bhp increase. Never tested that on dyno, just what the official bumpf said to expect, so prob a bit less. Can say the differance was incredible, much more responsive, lower revs while towing. Cost 440 nuggets inc vat. It did though cost new manifold gasket with new uprated studs and better quality gasket (increased pressure) my friend with same has had two gaskets now. Didnt do much for better consumption though. Could have been driving harder i suppose.

All of that lot is a waste of time IMO:)
Get a V8 and enjoy even more unreliability, excessive fuel consumption, HGF, cam wear and slipped liners.
